Tralee IT GAA
Tralee IT GAA was the GAA team in the Institute of Technology, Tralee, Ireland. They played Gaelic football, hurling, ladies' Gaelic football and camogie. On 1 January 2021, Tralee IT (now known as MTU Kerry) merged with Cork IT to become Munster Technological University. Gaelic football The football club competes in the Sigerson Cup and Higher Education Leagues as well as the McGrath Cup. The Ladies football team play in the O'Connor Cup and Higher Education Leagues. History IT Tralee (formerly known as Tralee RTC (Regional Technical College) made a mark on the college GAA scene in 1997 when it became the first RTC to win the Sigerson Cup. It was only Tralee's second outing in this competition. Tralee ( ; ga, Trá Lí, ; formerly , meaning 'strand of the Lee River') is the county town of County Kerry in the south-west of Ireland. ''The Kerryman'' is a weekly local newspaper published in County Kerry in Ireland by Independent News & Media who are a subsidiary of Mediahuis. The newspaper was founded in 1904 by Maurice Griffin and cousins Thomas and Daniel Nolan. Independent News & Media, then known as Independent Newspapers Limited acquired ''The Kerryman'' in 1972. It has three different editions – North Kerry, South Kerry and Tralee. All three editions are tabloid format newspaper. The move of the Tralee edition to a tabloid format in 2006 meant that ''The Kerryman'' became Ireland's first dual format newspaper. The last broadsheet edition hit shops in 2009. Ladies' Gaelic Football All Stars Awards
The Ladies' Gaelic Football All Stars Awards have been hosted annually by the Ladies' Gaelic Football Association since 1980. The All Stars are sponsored by TG4. O'Neills have also helped sponsor the awards. All Stars are awarded to the best Ladies' Gaelic football players in each of the fifteen playing positions, effectively forming an All Star team. Between 1980 and 2002 the All Stars played an annual exhibition game against the winners of the All-Ireland Senior Ladies' Football Championship. Since 2004 the LGFA have organised bi-annual overseas exhibition games featuring two All Star selections. Since 2011 the LGFA has also organised three Player's Player of the Year awards, one each for the Senior, Intermediate and Junior All-Ireland Championships. The All-Ireland Senior Ladies' Football Championship is the premier inter-county competition in the game of ladies' Gaelic football in Ireland. The series of games are organised by the Ladies' Gaelic Football Association and are played during the summer months, with the All-Ireland Final being played at Croke Park. The qualifiers were introduced in 2008. The winning team is presented with the Brendan Martin Cup. The Ashbourne Cup is an Irish camogie tournament played each year to determine the national champion university or third level college. The Ashbourne Cup is the highest division in inter-collegiate camogie. Nicky Quaid
Nicholas "Nickie" Quaid (born 12 June 1989) is an Irish hurler who plays as a goalkeeper for club side Effin and at inter-county level with the Limerick senior hurling team. Early life Quaid was born in Effin, County Limerick, the middle child of three sons born to Tommy Quaid and Breda Grace. His father was an All-Ireland runner-up with Limerick as a goalkeeper in 1980. James O'Brien (born 1983 in Bruree, County Limerick) is an Irish sportsperson. He plays hurling with his local club Bruree and has been a member of the Limerick and Kerry senior inter-county teams at various times since 2003. The Waterford Crystal Cup was an annual hurling competition organised by the Munster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association from 2006 to 2015 for the top inter-county teams and third-level institutes and universities in the province of Munster in Ireland. The series of games were played during January and February. The prize for the winning team is a special piece of glassware donated by Waterford Crystal. Mike Frank Russell
Mike Frank Russell (born 1977) is an Irish sportsperson. He plays Gaelic football with his local club Laune Rangers and was a member at senior level of the Kerry county team from 1997 until 2009. Early life Born in Killorglin, County Kerry in 1977, Russell was educated at Scoil Mhuire national school before later attending the Intermediate School in Killorglin. It was here that Russell's football skills were first developed and he became a key member of the school's senior team. In 1996 he captured a Corn Uí Mhuirí winners' medal as the Killorglin school captured the Munster colleges' title. An All-Ireland colleges' final appearance beckoned for Russell's side with St Patrick's of Maghera providing the opposition. Killorglin went on a goal scoring spree and proved more than a match for the point-scoring abilities of St Pat's.
