Trade And Industry Bureau
The Trade and Industry Bureau () is a former policy bureau of the Hong Kong Government, responsible for promoting Hong Kong's access to the world market, helping Hong Kong manufacturers remain competitive in international markets, enhancing the protection of intellectual property rights, and promoting Hong Kong customers' interests. It was headed by Secretary for Trade and Industry. The Sinitic languages (漢語族/汉语族), often synonymous with "Chinese languages", are a group of East Asian analytic languages that constitute the major branch of the Sino-Tibetan language family. The Trade and Industry Department of the Hong Kong Government is responsible for supporting traders and small businesses in the global market. History The Imports and Exports Department was renamed the Commerce and Industry Department in 1949. It was subsequently reorganised and renamed the Trade, Industry and Customs Department and later the Trade Department. It remerged with part of the Industry Department in respect of general support for the industry sector and small and medium enterprises, and renamed Trade and Industry Department in 2000. The remainder of the disestablished Industry Department was reorganised into the Innovation and Technology Commission. Sovereignty of Hong Kong was transferred from the United Kingdom to the People's Republic of China (PRC) at midnight on 1 July 1997. This event ended 156 years of British rule in the former colony. Hong Kong was established as a special administrative region of China (SAR) for 50 years, maintaining its own economic and governing systems from those of mainland China during this time, although influence from the central government in Beijing increased after the passing of the Hong Kong national security law in 2020.
