Trade Union (Wales) Act 2017
The Trade Union (Wales) Act 2017 is an Act of the National Assembly for Wales (now the Senedd) governing trade union activity in the public sector in Wales. Chiefly it prevents the use of agency workers during strike action in services that belong to the public sector, as well as overturning a 40% support threshold for strike ballots, restrictions affecting time off for union activities and the taking of union subscriptions directly from pay packets. At the time it was approved in July 2017, Mark Drakeford, Cabinet Secretary for Finance praised the Act as "a very significant day" for public services and devolution. Following the commencement of the 2022–2023 United Kingdom railway strikes the UK government announced plans to repeal legislation that prevents the use of agency workers to replace striking staff during industrial action in England, Scotland and Wales. Mark Drakeford
Mark Drakeford (born 19 September 1954) is a Welsh politician serving as First Minister of Wales and Leader of Welsh Labour since 2018. He previously served in the Welsh Government as Cabinet Secretary for Finance from 2016 to 2018 and Minister for Health and Social Services from 2013 to 2016. Drakeford was first elected as the Member of the Senedd (MS) for Cardiff West in 2011. Drakeford was born in Carmarthen in West Wales. He studied Latin at the University of Kent and the University of Exeter. He was a lecturer at the University College of Swansea from 1991 to 1995 and at the Cardiff University from 1995 to 1999. He was a Professor of Social Policy and Applied Social Sciences at Cardiff University from 2003 to 2013. Drakeford was elected at the 2011 National Assembly for Wales election for Cardiff West. The GMB is a general trade union in the United Kingdom which has more than 460,000 members. Its members work in nearly all industrial sectors, in retail, security, schools, distribution, the utilities, social care, the National Health Service (NHS), ambulance service and local government. Acts Of The National Assembly For Wales
An Act of Senedd Cymru ( cy, Deddf gan Senedd Cymru), or informally an Act of the Senedd, is primary legislation that can be made by the Senedd (Welsh Parliament; ) under part 4 of the Government of Wales Act 2006 (as amended by the Wales Act 2017). Prior to 6 May 2020 any legislation was formally known as an Act of the National Assembly for Wales ( cy, Deddf Cynulliad Cenedlaethol Cymru) or informally, an Act of the Assembly. The power to make primary legislation was conferred on the assembly following the 2011 elections as a commencement order had been passed in the Assembly by simple majority prior to dissolution. The activation of part 4 legislative powers was as a result of a "yes" vote in the 2011 referendum held in Wales. When the power to make Acts of the Assembly commenced, the Assembly lost the ability to make Measures under part 3 of the 2006 Act. Existing Measures will remain as law unless repealed. Luke Fletcher (born 1995/1996) is a Welsh politician who has been a Member of the Senedd (MS) for the South Wales West (Senedd electoral region), South Wales West region since 2021 Senedd election, 2021. He is a member of Plaid Cymru. He was born in Pencoed and earned a degree and master's degree from Cardiff University. A Member of the Senedd (MS; plural: ''MSs''; cy, Aelodau o'r Senedd; , plural:) (AS)., group=la is a representative elected to the Senedd (Welsh Parliament; ). There are sixty members, with forty members chosen to represent individual Senedd constituencies, and twenty to represent the five electoral regions of the Senedd in Wales. Welsh Labour ( cy, Llafur Cymru) is the branch of the United Kingdom Labour Party in Wales and the largest party in modern Welsh politics. Welsh Labour and its forebears won a plurality of the Welsh vote at every UK general election since 1922, Senedd election since 1999, and European Parliament election in 1979–2004 and 2014.
