Tracy Potter
Tracy Potter (born June 23, 1950) is an American historian, politician and member of the North Dakota Democratic-NPL Party. He represented District 35 in the North Dakota Senate from 2006 to 2010 and was the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate in 2010 and for Superintendent of Public Instruction in 2012. From 1993 to 2015, he served as executive director of The Fort Abraham Lincoln Foundation. Potter earned BA and MA degrees in History from the University of North Dakota. From 1993 to 2015, he was executive director of the Fort Abraham Lincoln Foundation, and was President of the Northern Plains Heritage Foundation. Potter was awarded the GNDA Tourism Development Award in 1997, and Tourism Industry Leader Award in 2005. He is active in Rotary. Erin Oban is an American politician from the state of North Dakota. She is a member of the North Dakota Senate for the 35th district and the North Dakota Democratic-Nonpartisan League Party. Early life Oban earned a Bachelor of Science in mathematics education from the University of Mary. She previously taught math at a junior high school. John Hoeven
John Henry Hoeven III ( ; born March 13, 1957) is an American banker and politician serving as the senior U.S. senator from North Dakota, a seat he has held since 2011. A member of the Republican Party, Hoeven served as the 31st governor of North Dakota from 2000 to 2010. In 2010, Hoeven was elected to the U.S. Senate, succeeding Senator Byron Dorgan, who chose not to seek reelection. Classes Of United States Senators
The 100 seats in the United States Senate are divided into three classes for the purpose of determining which seats will be up for election in any two-year cycle, with only one class being up for election at a time. With senators being elected to fixed terms of six years, the classes allow about a third of the seats to be up for election in any presidential or midterm election year instead of having all 100 be up for election at the same time every six years. The seats are also divided in such a way that any given state's two senators are in different classes so that each seat's term ends in different years. The 2010 United States Senate election in North Dakota took place on November 2, 2010, alongside other elections to the United States Senate in other states as well as elections to the United States House of Representatives and various state and local elections. Incumbent Democratic-NPL U.S. senator Byron Dorgan announced in January 2010 that he would not seek reelection, leading to the first open seat election since 1992. Republican governor John Hoeven won the seat in a landslide, taking 76.1% of the vote, sweeping every county in the state, and becoming North Dakota's first Republican senator since 1987. The North Dakota House of Representatives is the lower house of the North Dakota Legislative Assembly and is larger than the North Dakota Senate.
