Tractatus De Amore
Andreas Capellanus was the twelfth century author of a treatise commonly titled ''De amore'' ("About Love"), also known as ''De arte honeste amandi'', for which a possible English translation is ''The Skill of Loving Virtuously''. His real identity has never been determined, but has been a matter of extended academic debate. Andreas Capellanus is sometimes known by a French translation of his name, ''André le Chapelain''. Background ''De Amore'' was written sometime between 1186 and 1190. Its structure and content borrow heavily from Ovid's ''Ars amatoria''. It was most likely intended for the French court of Philip Augustus. Tractatus Astrologico Magicus
The ''Book of Soyga'', also titled ''Aldaraia'', is a 16th-century Latin treatise on magic, one copy of which was owned by the Elizabethan scholar John Dee. After Dee's death, the book was thought lost until 1994, when two manuscripts were located in the British Library (Sloane MS 8) and the Bodleian Library (Bodley MS. 908), under the title ''Aldaraia sive Soyga vocor'', by Dee scholar Professor Deborah Harkness. The Sloane MS 8 version is also described as ''Tractatus Astrologico Magicus'', though both versions differ only slightly.Jim Reeds, John Dee and the Magic Tables in the Book of Soyga, pg. 3. ''Tractatus coislinianus'' is an ancient Greek manuscript outlining a theory of comedy in the tradition of Aristotle's ''Poetics''. Dramatic theory The ''Tractatus'' states that comedy invokes laughter and pleasure, thus purging those emotions (catharsis), in a manner parallel to the description of tragedy in the ''Poetics''. ''Tractatus de Purgatorio Sancti Patricii'' (Treatise on Saint Patrick's Purgatory) is a Latin text written about 1180–1184 by a monk who identified himself as H. of Saltrey. Written by the Dutch philosopher Benedictus Spinoza, the ''Tractatus Theologico-Politicus'' (''TTP'') or ''Theologico-Political Treatise'' was one of the most controversial texts of the early modern period.
