Track 16 Gallery
Track 16 is a contemporary art gallery in the fashion district neighborhood of downtown Los Angeles, exhibiting the work of contemporary artists. History Track 16, founded by Tom Patchett, co-founded the gallery hub Bergamot Station in 1994. In the early years of the gallery, they staged exhibits with the artworks of Man Ray, Manuel Ocampo, the early Punk scene in L.A. ("Forming"), and contemporary Latin American art ("Amnesia", "While Cuba Waits"). Track 16 now resides in the historic Bendix Building, along with several other contemporary art galleries. Art Gallery
An art gallery is a room or a building in which visual art is displayed. In Western cultures from the mid-15th century, a gallery was any long, narrow covered passage along a wall, first used in the sense of a place for art in the 1590s. The long gallery in Elizabethan and Jacobean houses served many purposes including the display of art. Historically, art is displayed as evidence of status and wealth, and for religious art as objects of ritual or the depiction of narratives. The first galleries were in the palaces of the aristocracy, or in churches. As art collections grew, buildings became dedicated to art, becoming the first art museums. Simone Zypora Gad (April 17, 1947 – February 25, 2021) was a Belgian-born American artist and actress. Early life Gad was born in Brussels, the daughter of Michel AOUN Gad and Basla (Ba2ra) Gad. Mondongo (collective)
Mondongo is an Argentine art collective founded in 1999 by three artists in Buenos Aires and named for the Latin American tripe stew, mondongo. They characteristically create realistic images with provocative content out of unusual materials. History Juliana Lafitte, Manuel Mendanha and Agustina Picasso, all from Buenos Aires, formed Mondongo in 1999 after they met while studying art at the . Picasso later left the group, which after some years as a duo subsequently expanded again: there were seven members. Lafitte and Mendanha have a daughter. Elyse Pignolet
Elyse Pignolet is a visual artist living and working in Los Angeles, California. Early life and education Born in Oakland, CA, Elyse Pignolet is an American with Filipino heritage. She studied fine arts at California State University, San Francisco. She continued her studies at California State University, Long Beach, on a CSU exchange program. In 2001 she lived in Madrid and Barcelona, Spain, studying arts and Spanish. She completed her BFA degree at CSU Long Beach in 2007. Her studies included an intensive ceramics exchange through mainland China in 2007, and participation in the International Ceramics Biennal in Korea, also in 2007. Pignolet has conducted extensive research in Portugal, with an emphasis on "azulejo" tile painting techniques, as well as in Mexico City. Don Ed Hardy
Don Ed Hardy (born 1945) is an American tattoo artist known for his tattoos, strong influence on the development of modern tattoo styles, and his eponymous apparel and accessories brand. Early life Hardy was born on January 5, 1945, in Des Moines, Iowa. He grew up in Corona del Mar, in Newport Beach, California. As a preteen a young Ed Hardy was interested in tattoos: one of his friends' fathers had Army tattoos, and it intrigued him so much that he took pens and colored pencils to draw on other neighborhood kids. Janie Geiser (born 1957 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana) is an American artist and experimental filmmaker. Robbie Conal
Robert "Robbie" Conal (born 1944) is an American guerrilla poster artist noted for his gnarled, grotesque depictions of U.S. political figures of note. A former hippie, he is noted for distributing his poster art throughout a city overnight using his "volunteer guerrilla postering army". The Los Angeles Fashion District, previously known as the Garment District, is a business improvement district (BID) in, and often cited as a sub-neighborhood of, Downtown Los Angeles. Latin American Art
Latin American art is the combined artistic expression of South America, Central America, the Caribbean, and Mexico, as well as Latin Americans living in other regions. Since the mid-1970s, California has had thriving regional punk rock movements.
