Trabzonspor Kulübü is a Turkish sports club located in the city of Trabzon. Formed in 1967 through a merger of several local clubs, the men's football team has won seven Süper Lig championships. Trabzonspor also have a women's football team, and used to have a men's basketball team. Trabzonspor are one of the most decorated clubs in Turkey. They have won seven Süper Lig titles and were the first non Istanbul-based club to win the league. They also have won nine Federation Cup (Turkish Cup) titles. The club won their first championship title in 1975–76, and won three championship titles in a row in the 1978–79, 1979–80 and 1980–81. They would add one more title in 1983-84 before embarking on a 38 year championship drought. This drought eventually came to an end after they secured the championship in 2021-22. The Turkish football champions are the annual winners of the highest association football competition in Turkey. Brought to the country by Englishmen, the sport had first taken root in Istanbul, where the Istanbul Football League was founded and became the first football league in Turkey. Other regional and local leagues followed in other major cities, such as Ankara (1922), Adana (1924), Eskişehir (1924), and İzmir (1924). Trabzonspor Club Women's Football Team ( tr, Trabzonspor Kulübü Kadın Futbol Takımı) is the women's football team of Trabzonspor in Trabzon, Turkey. It was established on 16 October 2007. Right after its foundation, the team was invited to join the Turkish Women's Football Super League. However, the league was cancelled in 2003 but re-established for the 2007–08 season. Trabzonspor were the champions in the 2008–09 season, which was the second year of the league. The 2021–22 Süper Lig, officially called the Spor Toto Süper Lig Ahmet Çalık season, is the 64th season of the Süper Lig, the highest tier football league of Turkey. 2011 Turkish Football Match-fixing Scandal
The 2011 Turkish Sports corruption scandal was an investigation about match fixing, incentive premium, bribery, establishing a criminal organization, organized crime and intimidation in Turkey's top two association football divisions, the Süper Lig and First League. On 2 July 2012, a Turkish special-authorized state court sentenced many people to various prison sentences. However, on 6 March 2014, special-authorized courts were abolished in Turkey. On 23 June 2014, an earlier retrial demand was accepted. The retrial process started on 15 January 2015. After the retrial process, people who were charged were cleared of all charges pending the Supreme Court's approval. On 9 October 2015, the courts acquitted all the people who were charged at the beginning of the investigation, pending the Supreme Court's approval. 2016–17 Süper Lig
The 2016–17 Süper Lig (known as the ''Spor Toto Süper Lig'' for sponsorship reasons) was the 59th season of the Süper Lig, the highest tier football league of Turkey. The season was named after Turgay Şeren, a legendary goalkeeper of the Turkish national team who also played for and coached Galatasaray. Teams *Adanaspor, Karabükspor and Alanyaspor achieved promotion from 2015–16 TFF First League. Karabükspor made an immediate return, whereas Adanaspor returned to the top level after 12 years in lower leagues. The Akyazı Stadium ( tr, Akyazı Stadyumu), officially known as the Şenol Güneş Spor Kompleksi Akyazı Stadyumu, is a stadium located in Trabzon, Turkey. The Süper Lig (, ''Super League''), officially known as Spor Toto Süper Lig for sponsorship reasons, is a Turkish professional league for association football clubs. It is the top-flight of the Turkish football league system and is run by the Turkish Football Federation.
