is a Japanese professional shogi player, ranked 9-dan. He is a former holder of the Ryūō, Meijin, Ōi, Kisei and Eiō titles. Toyoshima, together with Akira Inaba, Tetsurō Itodani and Akihiro Murata, is one of four Kansai-based young shogi professionals who are collectively referred to as the . Chikashi Toyoshima
is a Japanese biophysicist. His research interest only focus on two proteins: the Ca2+-ATPase of muscle sarcoplasmic reticulum, and the Na+, K+-ATPase expressed in all animal cells. He is a professor of University of Tokyo and the Foreign Associate of the National Academy of Sciences, USA. Toyoshima's research about the Ca2+-ATPase started in 1989. In the next few years, he and his colleagues obtained a series of images of Ca2+-ATPase at the revolution of Atomic-level in the world for the first time. By the x-ray crystallography, cryo-EM and other methods, he has determined the crystal structures of ten intermediates of Ca2+-ATPase. On September 10, 2015, The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences awarded him and Poul Nissen the Gregori Aminoff Prize of 2016 for their fundamental contributions to understanding the structural basis for ATP-driven translocation of ions across membrane. Petty Officer was a Japanese airman in World War II. His A6M Zero was the first of that type (after those recovered after the attack on Pearl Harbor) to be recovered relatively intact on Allied territory when he crash landed on Melville Island, Northern Territory, Australia. Toyoshima was the first Japanese prisoner of war to be captured in Australia. While a prisoner of war, Toyoshima was one of the instigators of the breakout from the prisoner of war camp located in Cowra, New South Wales, Australia, sounding a bugle to signal the commencement of the escape, and died during the escape attempt. Shigeki Toyoshima (born March 5, 1971) is a Japanese former high jumper. He was a bronze medallist in his event at the 1998 Asian Games, sharing the position with Malaysia's Loo Kum Zee with a jump of 2.19 m. He cleared the same height at the 1991 Asian Athletics Championships to take the silver medal. He twice competed at the IAAF World Indoor Championships (1997 and 1999). At national level, he won once at the Japan Championships in Athletics, taking the title with a jump of 2.24 m in 1998.
