Abdulmari de Leon Imao, Jr. (born 1968), better known by either Toym Leon Imao or Toym Imao, is a Filipinos, Filipino multi-media visual artist whose art is known for its commentary on Filipino social conditions, as well as for its pop culture sensibilities. Among his most notable early sculptures included the Tandang Sora National Shrine in Quezon City; the Andres Bonifacio National Shrine in Maragondon, Cavite; the Dr. Jose P. Rizal statue in Carson City, California. In 2015, his exhibition "Desaparecidos" at the Bantayog ng mga Bayani was widely recognized as an important commemoration of the abuses of Martial law under Ferdinand Marcos. Abdulmari Asia Imao (January 14, 1936 – December 16, 2014) was a Filipino painter and sculptor. Imao was named National Artist of the Philippines for Visual Arts in 2006. A Tausūg people, Tausūg, Imao is the first Moro people, Moro to receive the recognition. Aside from being a sculptor, Imao is also a painter, photographer, ceramist, Cultural studies, cultural researcher, documentary film maker, writer, and a patron of Philippine art, Philippine Muslim art and culture. Early life Imao was born on 14 January 1936 in Siasi, Sulu. Imao spent most of his childhood in the town of Pata, Sulu, Pata, also in Sulu.
