Toyland (comics)
"Toyland" is an 8-page Disney comics story drawn and lettered by Carl Barks. Barks may have written the tale, but this is uncertain. "Toyland'" features Donald Duck, his nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie, and Santa Claus. It was first published by Dell as a Firestone Giveaway entitled ''Donald and Mickey Merry Christmas'' #1948 (December 1948). Also in the volume is an 8-page Mickey Mouse story entitled "A Day with Santa". Plot Santa Claus invites Donald and his nephews to the North Pole to test the Christmas toys. Donald has a rough time (he crashes through the roof on a pogo stick, for example, and is chased by a polar bear), but the nephews decide all the toys are wonderful and just what children want. ''Babes in Toyland'' is an operetta composed by Victor Herbert with a libretto by Glen MacDonough, which wove together various characters from Mother Goose nursery rhymes into a musical extravaganza. Following the extraordinary success of their stage musical '' The Wizard of Oz'', which was produced in New York beginning in January 1903, producer Fred R. Hamlin and director Julian Mitchell hoped to create more family musicals.Bloom and Vlastnik, p. 29 MacDonough had helped Mitchell with revisions to the ''Oz'' libretto by L. Frank Baum. Mitchell and MacDonough persuaded Victor Herbert to join the production. Noddy (character)
Noddy is an English character created by English children's author Enid Blyton. Noddy first appeared in a book series published between 1949 and 1963, illustrated by the Dutch artist Harmsen van der Beek from 1949 until his death in 1953, after which the work was continued by Peter Wienk. Television shows based on the character have run on British television since 1955. Noddy The first book explains Noddy's origins. He is made by a woodcarver in a toy store but runs away after the man begins to make a wooden lion, which scares Noddy. Zellers
Zellers was a Canadian discount department retail chain and is currently a brand name owned by the Hudson's Bay Company (HBC). Founded in 1931 in London, Ontario, in later decades it was based in Brampton, Ontario. Zellers was acquired by HBC in 1978 before closing in 2013.
