Beachcroft Towse
Sir Ernest Beachcroft Beckwith Towse, (23 April 1864 – 21 June 1948) was an English British Army officer and campaigner for the blind. He was a recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. Military career Towse, the son of a solicitor, was born in London, and was educated at Stubbington House School, Gosport, and Wellington College, Berkshire. In 1883 he joined the 3rd battalion Seaforth Highlanders and was promoted lieutenant in December 1885. In 1886 he transferred to the Gordon Highlanders. He distinguished himself with the Chitral Expedition in 1895, was promoted to captain on 20 May 1896, and served in the Tirah Campaign on the North-West Frontier of India in 1898. Anthony David Towse (born 22 April 1968 in Bridlington, East Riding of Yorkshire, England) is an English former first-class cricketer, who played one first-class match for Yorkshire County Cricket Club in 1988. He has also appeared in one day cricket for Lincolnshire in one game, and in eleven matches for the Wales Minor Counties. A right arm medium fast bowler, Towse took three first-class wickets for Yorkshire at 16.66 in his match against Cambridge University, with a best spell of 2 for 26. In 12 one day matches, from 1996 to 2004, he took nineteen wickets at 18.84, with a best of 3 for 19. A left-handed batsman, he scored 144 one day runs at 20.57, with a highest score of 30 not out. William Towse
William Towse (ca. 1551 – 22 October 1634) was an English lawyer and politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1586 and 1626. Towse was from Hingham, Norfolk. He was admitted at Inner Temple in 1571 and was called to the bar. He lived in the Inner Temple until 1614 and audited the steward's accounts and the treasurer's accounts five times between 1583 and 1600 and served on several committees investigating matters of concern to the inn. In 1586, he was elected Member of Parliament for Bramber. He was a J.P. for Essex from about 1592. In 1595, he became bencher of Inner Temple and in 1597 was summer reader. He was treasurer of the Inn in 1607 and was Lent reader in 1610. In 1614, he became serjeant-at-law and was elected MP for Beverley.
