Townsville Herald
The ''Townsville Herald'' was a newspaper published in Townsville, Queensland, Australia. It was also known as ''North Queensland Herald, Cleveland Bay Express and Northern Advertiser, and Townsville Times and North Queensland Advertiser''. History ''The Cleveland Bay Herald and Northern Pioneer'' came into existence on 3 March 1866, by James Thornburn Brown and published by a Mr Bohm, before shortly afterwards, changed to the ''Cleveland Bay Express'', conducted by John Melton Black. The ''Townsville Herald'' was published from 1876 to 5 August 1891. Archibald Meston became the editor of the paper in May 1881. Townsville
Townsville is a city on the north-eastern coast of Queensland, Australia. With a population of 180,820 as of June 2018, it is the largest settlement in North Queensland; it is unofficially considered its capital. Estimated resident population, 30 June 2018. The ''Townsville Bulletin'' is a daily newspaper published in Townsville, Queensland, Australia, formerly known as the ''Townsville Daily Bulletin''. Archibald Meston
Archibald Meston (26 March 1851 – 11 March 1924) was an Australian politician, civil servant, journalist, naturalist and explorer. Personal life Archibald Meston was born at Towie, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, the son of Alexander Meston. Meston migrated with his parents to Sydney in 1859, his family subsequently taking up farming at Ulmarra, New South Wales on the Clarence River.Stephens, S.E., (1974), "Meston, Archibald (1851–1924)", ''Australian Dictionary of Biography'', Volume 5, Melbourne University Press, pp. 243–24/ref> Meston married Margaret Frances Prowse Shaw in Sydney on 22 August 1871. John Macrossan
John Murtagh Macrossan (1832 – 30 March 1891) was an Australian politician of the late 19th century in the parliament of Queensland. Early and parliamentary life Macrossan was born in Donegal, Ireland. He moved to the colony of Victoria at the age of 21 to work on the gold diggings. Twelve years later he moved to North Queensland where he became well known among the miners in 1873 was elected a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly for the Kennedy electoral district. He championed the causes of regulation of the mining industry and Separatism of North Queensland as a separate colony. From January 1879 he was member for Townsville and secretary for public works and for mines in the first and second McIlwraith Ministries. In January 1890 Macrossan became the Colonial Secretary in the Morehead government. The Northern Miner (Queensland)
''The Northern Miner'' is an online newspaper published in Charters Towers, Queensland, Australia. History ''The Northern Miner'' was first established in 1872 by James Smith Reid. Reid established the paper only eight months after the discovery of gold in the regional Queensland town Charters Towers. In 1876 Reid sold the paper to Thadeus O'Kane. As the owner and editor of the Northern Miner, O’Kane devoted himself and the paper to improving the lives of the miners working in Charters Towers. Of the five newspapers published in the goldfields ''The Northern Miner'' was the only one to survive the downturn in gold mining. The paper is still being published today from the same Gill Street address it has been at since 1878.
