Tove Smaadahl (born 23 January 1954) is a Norwegian Labour Party politician and organisation leader, known for her work to prevent violence against women. She is Executive Director of the Crisis Centre Secretariat, having held the position since 1999. She is also involved in politics for the Labour Party. She has received several prizes for her work against violence against women, including the 2008 Zola Priza, the 2009 Gender Equality Prize of the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions (on behalf of the Crisis Centre Secretariat), and the 2012 Gina Krog Prize. Violence Against Women
Violence against women (VAW), also known as gender-based violence and sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), are violent acts primarily or exclusively committed against women or girls, usually by men or boys. Such violence is often considered a form of hate crime, committed against women or girls specifically because they are female, and can take many forms. VAW has a very long history, though the incidents and intensity of such violence have varied over time and even today vary between societies. Such violence is often seen as a mechanism for the subjugation of women, whether in society in general or in an interpersonal relationship. Norwegian Confederation Of Trade Unions
The Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions ( no, Landsorganisasjonen i Norge, LO) is a national trade union center, decidedly the largest and probably the most influential umbrella organization of labour unions in Norway. The 21 national unions affiliated to the LO have almost 1,000,000 members of a Norwegian population of 5 million. The majority of affiliated unions organizes traditional blue collar workers, but the largest affiliate is the Norwegian Union of Municipal and General Employees which makes up more than a third of all members. LO is affiliated to the ITUC and the ETUC. It was named the Workers' National Trade Union ( no, Arbeidernes Faglige Landsorganisasjon, AFL) from 1899 to 1957.
