Toulouse Football Club was a French association football team playing in the city of Toulouse, Haute-Garonne. The team was founded in 1937 and disappeared in 1967, in a merger with Red Star Olympique. Even though this team held the same name as Toulouse's current main club (Toulouse FC), the two teams are not to be confused, as they are not a continuation of each other. History Toulouse Football Club was founded on 20 March 1937 and began in Division 2. The club finished second in the South Group of 1945–46 French Division 2 season and were promoted to Division 1 almost a decade after its foundation. Toulouse finished in 14th position in its first campaign in the top tier of French football. Following four mid-table finishes, TFC claimed fourth spot in 1949–50 French Division 1 season, the club's then highest position. Stadium Municipal
Stadium de Toulouse, previously named Stadium Municipal, is the largest multi-purpose stadium in Toulouse, France. It is currently used mostly for football matches, mainly those of the Toulouse Football Club, as well as rugby matches for Stade Toulousain in the European Rugby Champions Cup and Top 14. It is located on the island of Ramier near the centre of Toulouse. It is a pure football and rugby ground, and therefore has no athletics track surrounding the field. The stadium is able to hold 33,150 people. History The stadium was built in 1937 for the 1938 FIFA World Cup (but again under construction, the World Cup matches were played in the Stade du T.O.E.C., 4 kilometers further North) and has undergone two extensive renovations, in 1949 and 1997. Jean-Baptiste Doumeng
Jean-Baptiste Doumeng (2 December 1919 – 6 April 1987) was a French businessman and politician. He became known as "The Red Billionaire" for his communist beliefs and business deals with Eastern Bloc nations. Raised in poverty, he joined the French Communist Party at 16. He performed his first trade, French potatoes for tractors, with Czechoslovakia, after learning that they were willing to trade their tractors for food. He later formed the Union des Cooperatives Agricoles du Sud Ouest (Ucaso). In 1947, Doumeng founded Interagra and performed many trades with Eastern Bloc nations, including Russia and Vietnam. After battling an illness for several months, Doumeng died at his home in 1987.
