Toshiki Sato (gridiron Football)
Toshiki Sato (born September 30, 1993) is a Japanese professional gridiron football placekicker and punter who is a free agent. He played college football at Waseda. He has been a member of the Toronto Argonauts and Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League (CFL), and the IBM Big Blue of the X-League. Early life Sato was born in Yokohama, Japan. College career Sato played four years of college football for the Waseda Big Bears of Waseda University in Shinjuku, Japan. With three seconds remaining in the 2015 Koshien Bowl, Sato missed a 52-yard field goal as Wasada lost to the 2015 Ritsumeikan Panthers by a score of 28–27. Professional career X-League Sato played for the IBM Big Blue of the X-League from 2016 to 2019. In 2019, he earned All-X-League honors and also set a league record with a 58-yard field goal. Placekicker
Placekicker, or simply kicker (PK or K), is the player in gridiron football who is responsible for the kicking duties of field goals and extra points. In many cases, the placekicker also serves as the team's kickoff specialist or punter. Specialized role The kicker initially was not a specialized role. Prior to the 1934 standardization of the prolate spheroid shape of the ball, drop kicking was the prevalent method of kicking field goals and conversions, but even after its replacement by place kicking, until the 1960s the kicker almost always doubled at another position on the roster. George Blanda, Lou Groza, Frank Gifford and Paul Hornung are prominent examples of players who were stars at other positions as well as being known for their kicking abilities. The Koshien Bowl (甲子園ボウル) is the annual Japanese American college football national championship game, usually played in December at Koshien Stadium. From the 1949 season until 2008 season, the game was held as the final game of Japan University American Football Championship. The game is held between 2 universities from East Japan (Hokkaido, Tohoku, Kanto) and West Japan (Tokai, Hokuriku, Kansai, Chushikoku, Kyushu). The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are a professional Canadian football team based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The Blue Bombers compete in the Canadian Football League (CFL) as a member club of the league's West division. They play their home games at IG Field. The Edmonton Elks are a professional Canadian football team based in Edmonton, Alberta. In Canadian football, a single (also called a single point, or ''rouge'') is a one-point score that is awarded for certain plays that involve the ball being kicked into the end zone and not returned from it. In sports, the practice squad, also called the taxi squad or practice roster, is a group of players signed by a team but not part of their main roster. Frequently used in gridiron football, they serve as extra players during the team's practices, often as part of the scout team by emulating an upcoming opponent's play style. Because the players on the practice squad are familiar with the team's plays and formations, the practice squad serves as a way to develop inexperienced players for promotion to the main roster.
