Torras Monte Carlo Golf Open
The Monte Carlo Open was a European Tour golf tournament which was played annually from 1984 to 1992. It was staged at the Monte Carlo Golf Club near Mont Agel in France, as there is no space for a golf course in Monaco. The winners of the tournament included two major champions, the Spaniard Seve Ballesteros Severiano Ballesteros Sota (; 9 April 1957 – 7 May 2011) was a Spanish professional golfer, a World No. 1 who was one of the sport's leading figures from the mid-1970s to the mid-1990s. Mont Agel
Mont Agel is a mountain on the border between France and Monaco. The summit of this mount, at above sea level, is on the French side, but the highest point of Monaco, lying on a pathway named Chemin des Révoires, is on its slopes, at an altitude of 161 metres (528 feet). History The top of Mont Agel is occupied by Nice Air Base, itself built on the former Ouvrage Mont Agel of the Alpine Line fortifications. On 18 June 2011, a light aircraft crashed onto Mont Agel, killing two British passengers. The plane was on a private flight, and was en route from Italy to Troyes at the time of the crash. Conditions were foggy. Mont Agel is the site of the Monte Carlo Golf Club, formerly home of the Monte Carlo Open. The club celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2011. José María Cañizares
José María Cañizares (born 18 February 1947) is a Spanish golfer. Cañizares was born in Madrid. He turned professional in 1967 and made the top hundred on the European Tour Order of Merit every year from its first season in 1972 through to 1993. He placed in the top ten five times, with a best ranking of fourth in 1983. He won five events on the tour. Cañizares was a member of four European Ryder Cup teams and had a record of 5 wins, 4 losses and two ties, including 2.5 points in four singles matches. In 1985 his singles victory over Fuzzy Zoeller rubber-stamped a European win that took the trophy from the Americans for the first time in 28 years. Ian James Mosey (born 29 August 1951) is an English professional golfer. Early life Mosey was born in Keighley, West Riding of Yorkshire, and is the son of cricket writer Don Mosey. Professional career Mosey turned professional in 1972 and spent almost twenty years on the European Tour, during which his best Order of Merit ranking was 29th, achieved in both 1984 and 1986. The 1984 European Tour was the 13th official season of golf tournaments known as the PGA European Tour. It was the first year for the tour as an independent entity, having previously been organised by European Tournament Players Division of the Professional Golfers' Association. The season was made up of 26 tournaments counting for the Order of Merit, and some non-counting "Approved Special Events". Isao Aoki
is a Japanese professional golfer. He was elected to the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2004. Career Aoki was born in Abiko, Chiba, Japan. He was introduced to golf while caddying at the Abiko Golf Club as a schoolboy. He turned professional in 1964. He went on to win more than fifty events on the Japan Golf Tour between 1972 and 1990, trailing only Masashi "Jumbo" Ozaki on the list of golfers with most Japan Golf Tour wins. Sam Torrance
Samuel Robert Torrance (born 24 August 1953) is a Scottish professional golfer and sports commentator. He was one of the leading players on the European Tour from the mid-1970s to the late 1990s, with 21 Tour wins. Torrance was a member of European Ryder Cup teams on eight occasions consecutively; on Cup-winning teams four times. He was also part of the winning Scotland team at the 1995 Dunhill Cup. Rodger Miles Davis (born 18 May 1951) is an Australian professional golfer. Career Davis was born in Sydney. He turned professional in 1974 and spent his regular career playing mainly on the PGA Tour of Australasia and the European Tour. He won the PGA Tour of Australasia Order of Merit in 1990 and 1991. Peter Albert Charles Senior (born 31 July 1959) is an Australian professional golfer who has won more than twenty tournaments around the world. Senior has competed mainly on the PGA Tour of Australasia, where he has had the most success and won the Order of Merit on four occasions, and the European Tour.
