Torpaggala
Torpaggala is a habitation of early Middle Ages in Azerbaijan. The monument is located on the left bank of Alazani River on the same named hill, south-west of the present Qakh. The longitudinal plan is 500–510 m in the north-east and south-west of the hill and 150–160 m in width. The total area is 1.5 hectares. Design In Torpaggala, various remains of buildings, clay ovens and fireplaces, industrial buildings, farm cubes, pottery and glassware and bone residues were found. The five rooms (all rooms were burned) discovered at the VII excavation site of Torpaggala, were made of bricks and wood material was used on the ceiling. A large number of mica were found in the hearth. Rashid Goyushov notes that it appears that mica was used to tan the pelt and to whitewash walls. Qax (city)
Qakh ( az, Qax, ka, კახი) is the capital of the Qakh District in the north of Azerbaijan, near the Russian border. History The Qakh region of Azerbaijan has a long history dating back to ancient times. Archeological excavations suggest the area had been populated during Eneolithic, Bronze and early Iron Ages. What remains of these early inhabitants' activities indicates they engaged largely in sedentary cultivation, animal-breeding and art. According to historians, the territory of Qakh was a part of the Scythian Kingdom in the 7th century B.C. Initially this territory of modern Qakh was a province of Caucasian Albania. After that, the region was a separate kingdom of Kakheti within Georgian cultural and political influence. Alazani
The Alazani ( ka, ალაზანი, az, Qanıx) is a river that flows through the Caucasus. It is the main tributary of the Kura in eastern Georgia, and flows for . Part of its path forms the border between Georgia and Azerbaijan, before it meets the Kura at the Mingəçevir Reservoir. The river is likely the same as that referred to by classical authors Strabo and Pliny as "Alazonius" or "Alazon", and may also be the Abas River mentioned by Plutarch (Plut. ''Pomp.'' 35) and Dio Cassius (37.3) as the location of the Battle of the Abas (65 BCE).
