Torpa, Norway
Torpa (or historically ''Torpen'') is a former municipality in the old Oppland county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1914 until its dissolution in 1962. The area is now part of Nordre Land Municipality. The administrative centre was the village at Åmot where the Åmot Church is located. Torpa currently constitutes the northern part of the Nordre Land, bordering the municipalities of Etnedal and Nord-Aurdal in the west, Gausdal, Lillehammer, and Gjøvik in the east. Name The municipality (and parish) were named ''Torpen'' ( non, Þorp) since this is the old name for this area. The meaning of the word ''þorp'' is probably "pasture" or "grazing land". Prior to 1918, the name was written "Torpen" and in 1918 it was changed to "Torpa". Vänersborg () is a locality and the seat of Vänersborg Municipality, Västra Götaland County, Sweden with 23,882 inhabitants (out of a municipal total of 39,591) Until 1997 it was the capital of Älvsborg County, which was dissolved in 1998. Since 1999 Vänersborg has been the seat of the regional parliament of Västra Götaland County. The city is located on the southern shores of lake Vänern, close to where the river Göta älv leaves the lake. History A marketplace was established at Brätte at the southern end of Vassbotten (southernmost part of Vänern), south of modern Vänersborg, by the end of the medieval period. Torpa block is a CD block that forms an administrative division in the Khunti Sadar subdivision of Khunti district, in the Indian state of Jharkhand. History Khunti subdivision was formed in Ranchi district in 1905 and Khunti district was created on 12 September 2007. Maoist activities Hemant Soren, Chief Minister of Jharkhand, has claimed, in September 2021, that effective action against Left wing extremism has reduced the active involvement of such groups to only a few areas that includes the tri-junction of Khunti, Seraikela Kharsawan and West Singhbhum districts.
