Toronto—Danforth (federal Electoral District)
Toronto—Danforth (formerly Broadview—Greenwood) is a federal electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 1979. It lies to the east of Downtown Toronto. Its best-known MP was New Democratic Party (NDP) leader and Leader of the Opposition Jack Layton. Toronto—Danforth includes an array of ethnicities, including large Greek, Chinese, Muslim and South Asian communities. It has the highest percentage of ethnic Greeks among all Toronto ridings (7.3%). Historically, the riding has tilted to the left, particularly since the 1990s. Most election contests take place between the NDP and the Liberal Party. Even with the end of vote-splitting on the centre-right, the Conservatives are almost nonexistent in the riding; no Conservative candidate has crossed the 15 percent mark. Julie Dabrusin
Julie A. Dabrusin (born April 16, 1971) is a Canadians, Canadian Liberal Party of Canada, Liberal politician. She was elected to represent the electoral district (Canada), riding of Toronto—Danforth in the House of Commons of Canada in the 2015 Canadian federal election, 2015 federal election. Dabrusin earned university degrees in law and Middle Eastern studies. She then spent 13 years as an attorney with Rogers Partners LLP, as well as a year as commission counsel to an inquiry into government procurement. Deborah Coyne
Deborah Margaret Ryland Coyne (born February 24, 1955) is a Canadian constitutional lawyer, professor, and author. She is the cousin of journalist Andrew Coyne and actress Susan Coyne, and the niece of former Bank of Canada governor James Elliott Coyne. Biography Coyne grew up in Ottawa. She graduated from Queen's University with a degree in economics and history in 1976. Benjamin Joseph Dichter (born 1975 or 1976) was a leader in the 2022 Canadian convoy protest. He is also a gemologist, former print shop operator, A-Z owner-operator, and author, from Toronto, Canada. He is the founder of the LGBTQ conservative group LGBTory. Elizabeth White (born c. 1950) is a Canadian animal rights movement, animal rights activist and politician. Early life White was born in Toronto, to parents who both were teachers. She earned a nursing degree at McGill University, and then worked in Kitchener, before moving back to Toronto a few years later. She was involved in political organizing, first with the New Democratic Party, beginning from age 20. Maryem Tollar (born 1968 in Cairo, Egypt) is a Toronto-based singer who primarily sings Arabic songs. She played with her own band called Mernie!. The federal electoral redistribution of 2012 was a redistribution of electoral districts ("ridings") in Canada following the results of the 2011 Canadian census. As a result of amendments to the Constitution Act, 1867, the number of seats in the House of Commons of Canada increased from 308 to 338. The previous electoral redistribution was in 2003. East York is a former administrative district and municipality within Toronto, Ontario, Canada. From 1967 to 1998, it was officially the Borough of East York, a semi-autonomous borough within the upper-tier municipality of Metropolitan Toronto. The Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto was an upper-tier level of municipal government in Ontario, Canada, from 1953 to 1998.
