''Magnolia'' is a 1999 American drama film written, directed and co-produced by Paul Thomas Anderson. It stars an ensemble cast, including Jeremy Blackman, Tom Cruise, Melinda Dillon, Philip Baker Hall, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Ricky Jay, William H. Macy, Alfred Molina, Julianne Moore, Michael Murphy, John C. Reilly, Jason Robards (in his final film role) and Melora Walters. Toronto Film Critics Association Awards
The Toronto Film Critics Association (TFCA) is an organization of film critics from Toronto-based publications. As of 1999, the TFCA is a member of the FIPRESCI. History The Toronto Film Critics Association is the official organization of Toronto-based broadcasters and journalists who critique films and provide commentary on them. Members represent all major print and electronic outlets in the city. They have juried festivals all over the world, from Cannes to Berlin, Venice to Toronto. The TFCA began presenting awards in 1998, and the dinner around them has grown to be a major annual event in the Canadian film calendar accompanied by a significant cash prizes, including a $100,000 purse, sponsored by Rogers, for the director of the best Canadian film. Elwy Yost
Elwy McMurran Yost, (July 10, 1925 – July 21, 2011) was a Canadian television host, best known for hosting CBC Television's weekday '' Passport to Adventure'' series from 1965 to 1967, TVOntario's weekday ''Magic Shadows'', from 1974 until the mid-1980s, and '' Saturday Night at the Movies'' from 1974 to 1999. Early life Born in Weston, Ontario, he was the son of pickle manufacturer Elwy Honderich Yost and Annie Josephine McMurran. In his youth, the senior Yost would give his son a dime a week to go see a movie on condition that he'd then recount the plot. Yost graduated from the Weston Collegiate and Vocational School in 1943. He began studies at the University of Toronto in 1943, and studied engineering but left in 1944, after failing his exams, and joined the Canadian Infantry in 1944. Alan Erwin Ball (born May 13, 1957) is an American writer, director, and producer for television, film, and theater. Ball wrote the screenplay for '' American Beauty,'' for which he earned an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.
