Toronto Falcons (1967–1968)
The Toronto Falcons were a soccer team based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. They played only two years, 1967 in the National Professional Soccer League (NPSL) and 1968 in the North American Soccer League (NASL). Their home field was Varsity Stadium. During the 1967 season, while still in the NPSL, the Falcons drew an average of 3,792 people per game. Toronto's record for the 1967 season was a bearable 10-5-17. The following season, the NPSL merged with the United Soccer Association to form the NASL. Their intercity rival, Toronto City, of USL folded in the process after only one year. In the NASL, with the legendary László Kubala as their coach, the Falcons played well collecting a 13-6-13 record, but financial troubles caused the club (along with 11 others) to fold. Their average attendance for the 1968 season was 5,336 people per game. The NASL would return to Toronto in 1971 in the form of the Toronto Metros. Varsity Stadium
Varsity Stadium is an outdoor collegiate football stadium located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is home to the Toronto Varsity Blues, the athletic teams of the University of Toronto. Athletic events have been hosted on the site since 1898; the current stadium was built in 2007 to replace the original permanent stadium built in 1911. Varsity Stadium is also a former home of the Toronto Argonauts, and has previously hosted the Grey Cup, the Vanier Cup, several matches of the 1976 Summer Olympics soccer tournament, and the final game of the North American Soccer League's 1984 Soccer Bowl series (which was also the last game played by the original NASL). Tony Lecce
Anthony "Tony" Lecce (born January 1, 1945) is an Italian-born Canadian former soccer defender who earned nine caps with the Canadian national soccer team and played four seasons in the North American Soccer League. Career Lecce played in 1964 with Toronto Italia in the Eastern Canada Professional Soccer League for three seasons. Throughout his tenure with Italia he received the league's MVP award in 1965. In 1967, he played in the American Soccer League with Boston Tigers. He played in the North American Soccer League (NASL) in 1968 with Toronto Falcons. In Greek mythology, Hector (; grc, Ἕκτωρ, Hektōr, label=none, ) is a character in Homer's Iliad. He was a Trojan prince and the greatest warrior for Troy during the Trojan War. Raúl Magaña
Raúl Alfredo Magaña Monzón (24 February 1940 – 30 September 2009) was a Salvadoran footballer and manager. He is regarded as one of the greats of Salvadoran football. Club career Magaña made his debut aged 18 against Deportivo Saprissa in Costa Rica, coming on as a sub for Humberto Pérez. He played for several Salvadoran top level sides, most prominently for hometown club FAS, and also had spells in Guatemala and Canada. He finished his career with Alianza in January 1975. Ferdinand Daučík
Ferdinand Daučík (also known as Fernando Daucik; 30 May 1910 – 14 November 1986) was a Slovak football player and manager. Daučík was the manager of several La Liga clubs, most notably Barcelona, Atlético Bilbao, Atlético Madrid and Real Zaragoza. During his career, he managed La Liga clubs in 488 matches, won three La Liga titles and won the Copa del Generalísimo on five occasions and won three La Liga/Copa doubles. Yanko Daucik
Yanko Daucik Ciboch (22 March 1941 – 13 May 2017) was a Slovak professional football (soccer), footballer during the 1960s and 1970s. Yanko played for Real Betis, Real Madrid, the Toronto Falcons (1967–1968), Toronto Falcons and RCD Español. Daucik is the son of Ferdinand Daučík, the veteran La Liga manager who moved with his family to Spain in 1950. Daucik made his La Liga debut for Real Betis on 11 September 1960 in a game against RCD Mallorca. His father was the Betis manager at the time. Yanko scored 14 goals in 38 La Liga appearances for Betis, attracting the interest of Real Madrid who signed him in 1962. Iris DeBrito
Iris DeBrito is a Brazilian former professional footballer who played in the North American Soccer League. In 1967, DeBrito signed with the New York Generals of the National Professional Soccer League. He moved to the Chicago Spurs during the season. In 1968, the NPSL merged with the United Soccer Association to form the North American Soccer League and the Spurs moved to Kansas City where they became the Kansas City Spurs. DeBrito played only two games with the Spurs in 1968 before being traded to the Toronto Falcons. He did not play in the NASL in 1969 or 1970, but returned to the league in 1971 with the Rochester Lancers. He played in the National Soccer League with Toronto First Portuguese for the 1973 season.
