Toronto Amateur Athletic Club
The Toronto Amateur Athletic Club (TAAC) or Torontos was an athletics organization in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The club fielded teams in various sports, including ice hockey and rugby football. The Toronto Amateur Athletic Club also had a gymnasium on Ossington Avenue and a boxing club. History The Toronto Athletic Club was founded in the 1800s as an unincorporated association. In the 1882 directory, its office is at 185 Yonge Street. In 1890, its office was at 25 King Street West, and its grounds were at 10 Elm Avenue, then north-east of the city, at the intersection of Elm and Sherbourne Street. By 1892, the Club had incorporated and had moved to 149 College Street, a building designed by architect E. J. Lennox, and reputedly holding the first indoor swimming pool, as well as a gymnasium and billiards room. The Interprovincial Amateur Hockey Union (IAHU or IPAHU) was the premier amateur ice hockey league in Canada after the split between the amateur and professional ice hockey teams of the Eastern Canada Amateur Hockey Association (ECAHA) in 1908. History In November 1908, the Montreal Victorias resigned from the ECAHA and proposed to set up a new amateur ice hockey league. The founding meeting of the new Interprovincial league was held on November 14, 1908. Mutual Street Rink
The Mutual Street Rink also known as the ''Caledonian Rink'' was a curling and skating rink located on Mutual Street in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It was the primary site of the sport of ice hockey in Toronto from the 1880s until 1912 when it was replaced by the Arena Gardens. In the 1880s, it was considered Toronto's largest auditorium. Building The building was opened in December 1875 under the name of the "Caledonian Skating & Curling Rink". The Caledonian Society was a club which celebrated Scottish games, had excursions and celebrated Robert Burns Day. It was an outdoor facility. In 1885, a permanent structure was built to enclose the rink. It opened on December 10 and the first event took place on December 17, a fancy dress carnival. The Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) is the governing body for the majority of junior and senior level ice hockey teams in the Province of Ontario. Rosedale Field was a grandstand stadium located in Rosedale Park at 20 Scholfield Avenue, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
