Tornillo ( ) is a census-designated place (CDP) and border town in El Paso County, Texas, El Paso County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,568 at the 2010 United States Census, 2010 census. It is part of the El Paso, Texas, El Paso El Paso metropolitan area, Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Tornillo and Guadalupe, Chihuahua, area is connected by the Tornillo-Guadalupe Bridge. The town is the home of Sonic Ranch, the world's largest residential recording complex. In June 2018, the US government opened a Tornillo tent city, tent city detention camp for migrant children at the Tornillo Port of Entry, Marcelino Serna Port of Entry on the Mexican border in Tornillo. Tornillo Tent City
The Tornillo tent city was a temporary immigrant detention facility for children located in Tornillo, Texas and operated by BCFS on behalf of the Department of Health and Human Services' Office of Refugee Resettlement. The Department termed it an "emergency influx care facility" and named it the Tornillo Influx Facility. When it was built in June 2018, the capacity was 400 minor immigrants with a one month contract. It was later expanded to a capacity of 4,000 minors. As many as 2,800 teenagers were held at the site before its closure was announced in January 2019. This made it one of the largest facilities in ORR's Unaccompanied Alien Children Program. All immigrant children had left the facility by January 11, 2019. Nearly 6,200 minors cycled through the facility within the seven months it operated. Glen Phillips (born December 29, 1970) is an American songwriter, lyricist, singer and guitarist. He is best known as the singer and songwriter of the alternative rock group Toad the Wet Sprocket. Personal life Phillips was born to a Reform Jewish family in Santa Barbara, California, United States. Although his family was Jewish, with Glen having a Bar Mitzvah, his family was secular and Buddhism was studied, with this spiritual curiosity being present in his work. He began to make music at 14 years old. Phillips and his ex-wife, Laurel, have three daughters, Sophia, Freya, and Zola. The couple was married from 1989 to 2014. On October 8, 2008, Phillips injured his arm while at a friend's house when a glass coffee table collapsed while he was sitting on it. Mesquite is a common name for several plants in the genus ''Prosopis'', which contains over 40 species of small leguminous trees. They are native to dry areas in the Americas. They have extremely long roots to seek water from very far under ground. As a legume, mesquites are one of the few sources of fixed nitrogen in the desert habitat. Mark Tornillo (born June 8, 1954) is an American singer and songwriter best known for serving as the frontman of heavy metal band Accept. He joined the band officially in May 2009 as Udo Dirkschneider's replacement. He also became the main lyricist of Accept, replacing the band's long-time manager Gaby Hoffmann. Career and style Raised in Brielle, New Jersey, Tornillo graduated from Manasquan High School in 1972. His both grandfathers were musicians and because of that he had musical training since young age, including classical piano lessons for nine years. Hearing the Beatles at the age of 7 or 8 inspired Tornillo to become a musician. Before gaining fame as a singer he also played bass in bands. Before he joined Accept, Tornillo was in the group T.T. Quick. The band arose from the fertile club scene in Tornillo's native New Jersey and picked up enough of a following to successfully tour across the state as well as play in New York.
