Carl-Axel Torén
Carl-Axel Oscar Torén (8 March 1887 – 21 October 1961) was a Swedish Army officer and Equestrianism, horse rider who competed in the 1912 Summer Olympics. He finished 13th in the Equestrian at the 1912 Summer Olympics – Individual jumping, individual jumping event with his horse ''Falken''. Early life Torén was born on 8 March 1887 in Stockholm, Sweden, the son of major general Gabriel Torén (1858–1919) and his wife Mary Hummel. He first trained in sprint running, but then changed to horse riding, as his father was an equestrian official and organizer of equestrian events at the 1912 Olympics. He became Swedish champion in running 400 meters in 1906 and broke the Scandinavian record in the same in 1906. Torén had four brothers. One of them, Helge (1891–1954), competed internationally in middle-distance running and held a national record over 800 m. Märta Torén
Märta Torén (21 May 1925 – 19 February 1957) was a Swedish stage and film actress of the 1940s and 1950s. Torén's father was a Swedish military officer, and for three years, during World War II, she was a secretary in the Swedish war office. After studying at the Stockholm Royal Dramatic Theater's Royal Dramatic Training Academy, Torén began her career on the stage and from 1947 she appeared in films. She appeared on the cover of the June 13 issue of ''Life Magazine'' in 1949. Torén appeared in 11 American film productions during her brief career. One of her roles was opposite Humphrey Bogart in ''Sirocco'' (1951), and she also co-starred with Dana Andrews in ''Assignment – Paris! Toren V. Smith (April 12, 1960 – March 4, 2013) was a Canadian manga translator and founder of Studio Proteus. Early life Smith learned to read by the age of four, and by the age of 12 had won his first award for writing from the Calgary Stampede and Exhibition. By thirteen he had sold his first magazine article, an examination of body morphology in deep sea fishes, which included drawings by himself. In 1974 his science fair project in physics with Martin Brock won first place in the Physics category and they moved on to competition in London, where they took an Honorable Mention. Brock also introduced Smith to comics, which would become a lifetime passion. Smith had already been drawing for years, mostly influenced by newspaper strips such as '' B.C.'' and ''Andy Capp'', but now he began to look at the work of Jack Kirby and Walt Kelly. Guy Gardner, one of the characters known as Green Lantern, is a superhero appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics, usually in books featuring the Green Lantern family of characters, and for a time (late 1980s through mid 1990s) was also a significant member of the Justice League family of characters. Toren Van Goedereede
The Toren van Goedereede (;In isolation, ''Toren'' and ''van'' are pronounced and , respectively. Goederede Tower) is a gray square brick tower in Goedereede, Netherlands, high, belonging to the Catharina church. It was built in 1512. From 1552 to 1912 the tower served as a lighthouse, and went through various changes during this period. Today it has been restored and is a museum, housing a carillon. Church tower The original tower was part of a large parish church in the then-prosperous fishing and trading port. Nieuwe Toren, Kampen
The Nieuwe Toren (New Tower) is located at the Oudestraat in the city of Kampen, in the Netherlands. This Carillon tower was built in the period between 1649-1664 partly according to a design by Philips Vingboons. The lower brick-built part was erected by the Edam mill maker (Master carpenter) Dirck Janzn. The design for the lantern was made by Philips Vingboons, which may have originally been intended for the Town hall now the Royal Palace of Amsterdam. The construction work went through many setbacks, the work even came to a standstill during the period 1655-1660.
