Torbjørg Utne
Torbjørg Utne (1812 – 22 May 1903) was a Norwegian hotelier. Personal life Torbjørg Johannesdatter Utne was born in Utne in 1812, a daughter of farmer Johannes Lutro and Torbjørg Helland. She married merchant and hotelier Johan Winess Utne in 1832. Career Serving as hostess at the in Utne, Hardanger for 70 years, Torbjørg Utne got legendary status, nicknamed ''Mor Utne''. The hotel became a gathering point for scientists from Norway and other countries, and eventually for tourists. Eilif Peterssen
Hjalmar Eilif Emanuel Peterssen (4 September 1852 – 29 December 1928) was a Norwegian painter. He is most commonly associated with his landscapes and portraits. Biography Hjalmar Eilif Emanuel Peterssen was born in Christiania, now Oslo, Norway. He was the son of Jon Peterssen (1814–1880) and Anne Marie Andersen (1812–1887). He grew up in the neighborhood of Hegdehaugen in the district of Frogner. He attended the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry (''Statens håndverks- og kunstindustriskole'') in Christiania from 1866–1870. He entered the Johan Fredrik Eckersberg School of Painting in 1869. He trained with Knud Bergslien and Morten Müller in the autumn of 1870. In 1871 he left Oslo to study at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. Later that year he moved to Karlsruhe, where he was a student of Ludwig des Coudres at the Academy of Fine Arts, Karlsruhe and Wilhelm Riefstahl at Weimar Saxon-Grand Ducal Art School. Utne
Utne is a village in Ullensvang municipality in the Hardanger region of Vestland county, Norway. The village is located on the northern end of the Folgefonn Peninsula, at the confluence of the Sørfjorden and Hardangerfjorden. The village is the site of Utne Church. The village of Alsåker lies about to the west on the northern shore of the peninsula and the village of Vikebygd lies about to the south along the eastern shore of the peninsula. Utne is a ferry port with regular ferry routes from Kinsarvik to Kvanndal via Utne, connecting the two sides of the fjord. Utne is also home to the Utne Hotel, Norway's oldest hotel in continuous operation, founded in 1722. Name Utne, in Norwegian, probably has some pre-Germanic elements (i.e. before approx. 200 CE). Hardanger
Hardanger is a traditional district in the western part of Norway, dominated by the Hardangerfjord and its inner branches of the Sørfjorden and the Eid Fjord. It consists of the municipalities of Ullensvang, Eidfjord, Ulvik and Kvam, and is located inside the county of Vestland. The area is dominated by the vast Hardangervidda plateau in the east and the large Folgefonna glacier on the central Folgefonna peninsula. The district was selected as the millennium site for the old Hordaland county. In the early Viking Age, before Harald Fairhair, Hardanger was a petty kingdom with its capital at Kinsarvik. Etymology The Old Norse form of the name was ''Harðangr''. The first element is derived from the ethnonym '' hǫrðar'', or from ''harðr'' meaning "hard" (referring to wind and weather).
