Operation Toral
Operation Toral was the codename for the British presence within Afghanistan post-2014 as part of NATO's Resolute Support Mission. UK forces had two major tasks: training and mentoring Afghan Forces, and providing force protection for NATO advisors via the Kabul Security Force/Kabul Protection Unit. The operation drew to a close on 8 July 2021 with the withdrawal of U.S. and NATO forces from the country. However, British troops were subsequently redeployed under Operation Pitting in August 2021 to evacuate British nationals and staff following the 2021 Taliban offensive. Background Operation Herrick was the codename under which all British operations in the War in Afghanistan were conducted from 2002 to the end of combat operations in 2014. It consisted of the British contribution to the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), and support to the American-led Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). In December 2012 Prime Minister David Cameron announced that 3,800 ...

Toral Lie Algebra
In mathematics, a toral subalgebra is a Lie subalgebra of a general linear Lie algebra all of whose elements are semisimple (or diagonalizable over an algebraically closed field). Equivalently, a Lie algebra is toral if it contains no nonzero nilpotent elements. Over an algebraically closed field, every toral Lie algebra is abelian; thus, its elements are simultaneously diagonalizable. In semisimple and reductive Lie algebras A subalgebra \mathfrak h of a semisimple Lie algebra \mathfrak g is called toral if the adjoint representation of \mathfrak h on \mathfrak g, \operatorname(\mathfrak h) \subset \mathfrak(\mathfrak g) is a toral subalgebra. A maximal toral Lie subalgebra of a finite-dimensional semisimple Lie algebra, or more generally of a finite-dimensional reductive Lie algebra, over an algebraically closed field of characteristic 0 is a Cartan subalgebra and vice versa. In particular, a maximal toral Lie subalgebra in this setting is self-normalizing, coincides ...
