Klaudjo Dhespo (born 6 December 1994), known professionally as Toquel (stylised in all caps), is a Greek rapper. Life and career Toquel was born as Klaudjo Dhespo on 6 December 1994 into an Albanians, Albanian family in the city of Tepelenë, Albania. His family moved from his native country to Heraklion, Greece, when he was 11 months old. During an interview in Greece, Dhespo stated that he experienced Anti-Albanian sentiment#Greece, discrimination because of his Albanians in Greece, Albanian origin. Artistry and influences Dhespo's stage name, Toquel, was inspired by a therapist from Chania, Greece, who helped him to manage his panic attacks. He grew up listening to artists such as 50 Cent, Audio Two, Big L, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, Dr. Dre, Eminem, Mobb Deep, Rakim, Snoop Dogg, The Notorious B.I.G., Tupac Shakur, Tupac and Xzibit. Tepelenë ( sq-definite, Tepelena) is a city and a municipality in Gjirokastër County, in the south of Albania. The town is located on the left bank of the Vjosa River, about three kilometres downstream from its union with the Drino. Until the abolition of Districts of Albania, Districts in 2000, Tepelenë was the seat of the Tepelenë District. Its location is strategically important and there is a ruined citadel occupying a point 300 metres above the river. Ali Pasha of Tepelenë was born at the nearby village of Beçisht. In 1847, the British writer Edward Lear visited the town and noted the devastated buildings. History The Byzantines built a defensive tower which was successively developed during the Ottoman Empire epoch in the 15th century and by Ali Pasha in the early 19th century.
