''Top Chef: California'' is the thirteenth season of the American reality television series ''Top Chef''. The season was announced by Bravo on April 14, 2015. Similar to '' Top Chef: Texas'', filming took place in several locations across California, including San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Santa Barbara, Oakland, and the greater Palm Springs area, concluding with a finale in Las Vegas, Nevada. ''Top Chef: California'' had a two-night premiere on December 2–3, 2015. Kwame Onwuachi
Born November 11, 1989, Kwame Onwuachi () is a Nigerian-American chef based in New York City, New York. A published author and restaurateur, he also appeared as a contestant on ''Top Chef'' (season 13) in 2015. He was recognized by ''Food & Wine'' magazine, ''Esquire'' magazine, and the James Beard Foundation as "Rising Star Chef of the year" in 2019. Early life and education Born on Long Island in New York, Onwuachi spent most of his childhood growing up in The Bronx. Ukiah ( ; Pomo: ''Yokaya'', meaning "deep valley") is the county seat and largest city of Mendocino County, California, with a population of 16,607 at the 2020 census.
