Toombul Shire Council
The Shire of Toombul was a local government area of Queensland, Australia, located in northern Brisbane from 1883 to 1925. History The Nundah Division was one of the original divisions created on 11 November 1879 under the ''Divisional Boards Act of 1879''. The division was a large one, ranging from the Pine River in the north to the Brisbane River in the south and from Moreton Bay in the east to Chinaman's Creek (now South Pine River) in the west. The residents in the southern part of the division (the Toombul area) felt their needs were quite distinct from those further north and immediately began to agitate for the division to be split. On 1 November 1883, the Toombul Division was separated from the Nundah Division (which was later renamed the Kedron Division). On 2 October 1890 the Hamilton Division was separated from the Toombul Division due to the agitation of Toombul board member Andrew Lang Petrie, who became the first chairman of the Hamilton board. Nundah (previously called German Station) is an inner suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It contains the neighbourhood of Toombul. In the , Nundah had a population of 12,141 people. Prior to European settlement, Nundah was inhabited by Aboriginal people from the Turrbul tribe. Nundah is primarily a residential suburb, which straddles Sandgate Road, one of the major arterial roads of Brisbane's north. It was first settled by Europeans in the mid-19th century, although the suburb remained primarily a rural area until it was connected to Brisbane via railway in the 1880s. Originally considered a working-class suburb, the area has become gentrified in recent years, and today features a mix of traditional worker's cottages and modern high-density apartment blocks. James Francis Maxwell
James Francis Maxwell was a politician in Queensland, Australia. He was the mayor of the City of Brisbane and a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly for Toowong. Early life James Francis Maxwell was born in 1862 in County Armagh, Ireland, the son of Samuel Maxwell and his wife Matilda (née Stoops). On 23 July 1890 he married Alice Annie Letitia Davies at St Peter's Church at West End, Brisbane, the daughter of John Davies, the engineer and manager at the South Brisbane Gas Company who designed the (now heritage-listed) West End Gasworks. Bulimba is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland. The electorate covers the inner eastern suburbs of Brisbane. It is bounded on the north and the west by the Brisbane River and, as at the 2009 election, covers the suburbs of Bulimba, Balmoral, Cannon Hill, Hawthorne, Morningside, Norman Park, Murarrie and Seven Hills. The boundaries have changed relatively little since 1923; prior to that, the boundaries extended as far east as Wynnum and as far south-east as Mount Gravatt and Cleveland. John Francis Buckland
John Francis Buckland (1825–1910) was an auctioneer and a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland. Private life John Francis Buckland was born in Runnymede, Wraysbury, England in 1832 in a farmhouse that was a former hunting lodge of King John. He immigrated to Queensland in 1862 from England. His wife was Ellen Gertrude Ashton, daughter of Joseph Ashton and Mary Hewison. Buckland died on 21 September 1910 and was buried on 22 September 1910 in Nundah Cemetery.Queensland Registrar-General of Births, Deaths & Marriages. The Queensland Heritage Register is a heritage register, a statutory list of places in Queensland, Australia that are protected by Queensland legislation, the Queensland Heritage Act 1992. It is maintained by the Queensland Heritage Council. As at 5 April 2020 there are 1790 places on the Queensland Heritage Register, including the Story Bridge in Brisbane and the Ross River Meatworks Chimney in Townsville.
