Tony Scherman
Antony Scherman (August 13, 1950 – February 28, 2023) was a Canadian painter. He was known for his use of encaustic and portraiture to depict events of historical, cultural and popular significance. Early life, education and career Scherman was born in Toronto, but he grew up in Europe. His father Paul Scherman, a conductor and violinist, and mother settled in Paris in 1955. Paul Scherman relocated to London by 1958, and Tony Scherman arrived there by 1959 to live with his father. After first attending the Byam Shaw School of Art, Scherman then went to the Royal College of Art and graduated with an MA in 1974. While at the Royal College of Art, Scherman was introduced to encaustic by his tutor, John Golding. The College acquired a painting for the collection from Scherman's thesis exhibition. Peter Blake (artist)
Sir Peter Thomas Blake (born 25 June 1932) is an English pop artist. He co-created the sleeve design for the Beatles' album ''Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band''. His other works include the covers for two of The Who's albums, the cover of the Band Aid (band), Band Aid single "Do They Know It's Christmas?", and the Live Aid concert poster. Blake also designed the 2012 Brit Award statuette. Blake is a prominent figure in the pop art movement. Central to his paintings are his interest in images from popular culture which have infused his collages. The Gallic rooster (french: le coq gaulois) is a national symbol of France as a nation, as opposed to Marianne representing France as a state and its values: the Republic. ''Liberty Leading the People'' (french: La Liberté guidant le peuple ) is a painting by Eugène Delacroix commemorating the July Revolution of 1830, which toppled King Charles X. Banquo
Lord Banquo , the Thane of Lochaber, is a semi-historical character in William Shakespeare's 1606 play ''Macbeth''. In the play, he is at first an ally of Macbeth (both are generals in the King's army) and they meet the Three Witches together. After prophesying that Macbeth will become king, the witches tell Banquo that he will not be king himself, but that his descendants will be. Later, Macbeth in his lust for power sees Banquo as a threat and has him murdered by three hired assassins; Banquo's son, Fleance, escapes. A visual metaphor is a metaphor the medium of which is visual. Like in any other metaphor, one part of it, usually named "source", applies to another part, usually named "target", and reconstructs it. The point is that the metaphorical application or reconstruction in visual metaphor is made by means of visual tools, forms and compositions.
