Tony Payne (darts)
Thomas Anthony Payne (born April 10, 1955) is an American former professional darts player. He is also well known for publishing an article in the ''Bulls Eye News'' magazine famously titled "Thermonuclear Cricket". Career Payne played in seven BDO World Darts Championships, but only managed to win one match in 1991, where he defeated Chris Johns, eventually losing in the second round to then World Champion Phil Taylor. All his other appearances saw him beaten in the first round where he lost to the likes of Eric Bristow (1987), Cliff Lazarenko (1988) and Bob Taylor (1994). Payne is, along with Davy Richardson and Steve West, one of three players to have lost their first five matches at the World Championship. Owensboro, Kentucky
Owensboro is a home rule-class city in and the county seat of Daviess County, Kentucky, United States. It is the fourth-largest city in the state by population. Lars Erik Karlsson
Lars Erik Karlsson (born 28 October 1964) is a Swedish former professional darts player who competed in the British Darts Organisation (BDO) during the 1980s and 90s. Career Karlsson played three successive World Championships in 1987, 1988 and 1989. He reached the quarter-finals in 1987, defeating Scotland's Peter McDonald in the first round and then defeated Brian Cairns in round two before losing to defending champion Eric Bristow. In 1988, he lost 3-0 in the first round to Paul Reynolds and in 1989, he defeated Tony Payne in the first round before losing to Peter Evison in round 2. Vic Hubbard
Victor Hubbard (born 18 November 1952) is an English former professional darts player who competed members in the 1980s. Career Hubbard qualified for the 1986 World Professional Darts Championship, beating Tony Payne in the first round before losing in the second round to Jocky Wilson. 17 years later, Hubbard joined the Professional Darts Corporation and qualified for the 2003 UK Open but lost his first match 5-0 to Steve Maish. He played in three more UK Open championships, reaching the third round in 2004 and 2005, losing to Wayne Mardle and Adrian Lewis respectively, and reaching the second round in 2006, losing to Roland Scholten. Steve Maish
Stephen Maish (born 22 November 1963 in Southend, Essex) is a retired English professional darts player who competed in Professional Darts Corporation events. He used the nickname Mr Magic for his matches. Career Maish made his televised debut at the 2003 UK Open beating Vic Hubbard but lost 5–0 to former World Champion Steve Beaton. He then played in his first PDC World Darts Championship in 2004, beating former World Masters semi-finalist Tony Payne of the United States in the first round and then beat four-time World semi-finalist Cliff Lazarenko in the second round before losing in the third round to Wayne Mardle. Ronnie Baxter
Ronnie Baxter (born 5 February 1961) is an English former professional darts player who competed in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. He used the nickname "The Rocket" for his matches. Baxter was known for his fast robotic throwing action. He currently resides in his hometown Blackpool. Baxter is widely regarded as one of the best players never to have won a major TV title. Steve Beaton (born 5 April 1964) is an English professional darts player who plays in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. He won the BDO World Darts Championship in 1996 and is a former World No. 1. Background Beaton was born in Coventry, Warwickshire, England. BDO career Beaton made his World Championship debut in 1992, at a time when the world darts championship was still a unified tournament. Las Vegas Desert Classic
The Las Vegas Desert Classic was a darts tournament, organized by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) and was held each year in July from 2002 until 2009. Its original venue was the MGM Grand Casino and Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada from 2002 to 2005, but the tournament moved down the strip to the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino from 2006 to 2009. The tournament carried a total prize purse of £126,400 (approx US$250,000). Due to the time difference between the UK and US, the matches were played in the morning local time – which is prime-time evening in the UK where the tournament was broadcast live on Sky Sports. Initially Fox Sports World transmitted the tournament live but in recent years they broadcast recorded coverage in the United States. Partypoker.net became the first sponsors of the event in 2006. Paul Lim
Paul Lim Leong Hwa (born 25 January 1954) is a Singaporean professional darts player. He was the first player to hit a perfect nine-dart finish during the Embassy World Darts Championship, which he achieved in 1990 during his second round match against Jack McKenna. Lim won £52,000 for his nine-darter, which was £28,000 more than Phil Taylor won for winning the tournament. His nine-darter remained the only nine-dart game to have been achieved in either version of the world championships, until Raymond van Barneveld hit one against Jelle Klaasen in the quarter-final of the 2009 PDC World Darts Championship.
