Tony Dean Smith
Tony Dean Smith (born 12 October 1977) is a screenwriter director and editor for film and television. Smith was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. He currently lives in Vancouver, British Columbia. An award-winning graduate of the Vancouver Film School, he was selected to be one of five directors for the Directors Guild of Canada 'KickStart' 2003 program, resulting in Best Short Film Leo Award for his film, ''Reflection'', 2004. A television director is in charge of the activities involved in making a television program or section of a program. They are generally responsible for decisions about the editorial content and creative style of a program, and ensuring the producer's vision is delivered. Film editing is both a creative and a technical part of the post-production process of filmmaking. The term is derived from the traditional process of working with film stock, film which increasingly involves the use Digital cinema, of digital technology. The film editor works with raw footage, selecting Shot (filming), shots and combining them into Sequence (filmmaking), sequences which create a finished Film, motion picture. The Directors Guild of Canada (DGC) is a Canadian labour union representing more than 5,500 professionals from 48 different occupations in the Canadian film and television industry. Founded in 1962, the DGC represents directors, editors, assistant directors, location managers, production assistants and others.
