Tony Cocker
Anthony David Cocker (born 26 April 1959) was the chief executive of E.ON UK, one of the '' Big Six'' UK energy providers. He is also a chairman of Infinis Energy Management Limited's board. Early life He was born in the Borough of Fylde, Lancashire. He has a younger brother. He read mathematics at Lincoln College, Oxford, gaining a BA in 1981 and D.Phil. in 1984. His doctorate researched the shape of water droplets. He later studied at International Institute for Management Development (IMD) in Lausanne in 1988. Career He worked for L.E.K. Consulting from 1984 to 1992, then Bass Brewery. Powergen He joined Powergen in 1997 as head of corporate strategy. In August 2001 he became managing director of Energy Trading, replacing Nick Horler. Powergen was acquired by E.ON in 2002. Big Six Energy Suppliers (UK)
The Big Six were the United Kingdom's largest retail suppliers of gas and electricity, who dominated the market following liberalisation in the late 1990s. By 2002, six companies – British Gas, EDF Energy, E.ON, RWE npower, ScottishPower and SSE – had emerged from the 15 former incumbent monopoly suppliers (the 14 regional public electricity suppliers and British Gas). In 2008, the Big Six still had over 99% of domestic and small business customers. They were vertically integrated in electricity, owning sufficient generation capacity to supply all their customers; while in gas, only Centrica (British Gas) owned production facilities. By the third quarter of 2019, after efforts by the regulator Ofgem to promote competition, their combined share in Great Britain was 70% for electricity supply and 69% for gas. RWE Npower
Npower Limited is a British supplier of gas and electricity to businesses. It has been a subsidiary of E.ON UK since January 2019. The company was formerly known as Innogy plc and was listed on the London Stock Exchange and was a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index. In March 2002, it was acquired by RWE of Germany, and was subsequently renamed RWE npower plc. RWE split off its renewable energy, network and retail divisions as Innogy SE in April 2016, and Npower transferred to the new business. It is considered one of the Big Six energy suppliers, which dominate the gas and electricity market in the United Kingdom. E.ON transferred npower's residential customers to a new brand, E.ON Next, in 2021. Paul Coffey (born 13 September 1969) is a British businessman, and the ex Chief Executive of npower. Early life From 1993 to 1995 he did an HNC in Business and Finance at the University of Northumbria at Newcastle (became Northumbria University in 2002). From 1995 to 1997 he did a BSc in Business and Finance at the University of Sunderland. Career He joined Northern Electric in 1989, working with them for around a decade. npower He joined npower in 2002, the same year it was taken over by RWE of Germany. He became Chief Executive of RWE npower in October 2015, where he was ultimately replaced on November 29th 2019 as part of Eon's take over of npower's parent company Innogy.
