Tony Catanzariti
Antonio (Tony) Catanzariti (born 17 September 1949) is a former Australian politician and a citrus farmer. Catanzariti represented the Labor Party in the New South Wales Legislative Council from the 2003 election until his retirement in 2011. On 31 January 2011, Catanzariti announced he would not recontest the next state election because he wanted to devote more time to his farming interests and family. Catanzariti was born in Platì in Calabria, southern Italy. His father left Italy for Australia in late 1949 with the hope of finding work and stability to raise his family. His father first went to Adelaide and later moved to Griffith, New South Wales. His mother migrated to Australia when Catanzariti was just one year old and arrived in Griffith in September 1950. Legislative Council Of New South Wales
The New South Wales Legislative Council, often referred to as the upper house, is one of the two chambers of the parliament of the Australian state of New South Wales. The other is the Legislative Assembly. Both sit at Parliament House in the state capital, Sydney. It is normal for legislation to be first deliberated on and passed by the Legislative Assembly before being considered by the Legislative Council, which acts in the main as a house of review. The Legislative Council has 42 members, elected by proportional representation in which the whole state is a single electorate. Adrian Piccoli
Adrian Piccoli (born 24 March 1970) is a former Australian politician who represented the electoral district of Murray in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 2015 to 2017, and the district of Murrumbidgee from 1999 to 2015. He was the deputy leader of the Nationals in the New South Wales Parliament from 2008 to 2016. Piccoli served as the Minister for Education between April 2011 and January 2017, in both the O'Farrell and Baird ministries. Personal life Of Italian descent, Piccoli was born in Griffith. An election campaign was held ahead of a general election for the 54th Parliament of New South Wales on Saturday, 24 March 2007. The result—a win for the social-democratic Labor Party and its new leader Morris Iemma—was widely perceived as a foregone conclusion, with opposition leader Peter Debnam conceding as much the week before the poll. Though water and infrastructure emerged as key issues in the campaign, much of the parties' advertising focussed on the negatives: Debnam's business record and Labor's record in office.
