Tony Burns (boxing)
Tony Burns, MBE (1940 – 1 February 2021) was an amateur boxer and trainer. He worked at Repton Boxing Club in London where he trained fighters for more than 60 years. Biography Burns was born in Wales where his father was stationed as a soldier. He moved to London from Wales where he began boxing for Repton Boxing Club. Audley Harrison trained under Burns during his time at Repton where he won super-heavyweight crowns for ABA in 1997 and 1998, as well as Commonwealth super-heavyweight title in 1998. He also helped train approximately 300 boxers who received national titles and 10 who went on to the Olympic Games. Order Of The British Empire
The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. It was established on 4 June 1917 by King George V and comprises five classes across both civil and military divisions, the most senior two of which make the recipient either a knight if male or dame if female. There is also the related British Empire Medal, whose recipients are affiliated with, but not members of, the order. Boxing training is the training method that boxers use in order to get more fit for their sport. Training A boxer's training depends largely on the point in their career at which they are situated. Repton Boxing Club
Repton Boxing Club is a boxing club in Bethnal Green, east London, England. The club grew out of Repton Boys Club, which was founded by Repton School, a public school in Derbyshire. Repton Boys Club was set up by the school to help underprivileged young men in east London. The club is located at 116 Cheshire St, Bethnal Green, London E2 6EG. Audley Harrison
Audley Hugh Harrison, (born 26 October 1971) is a British former professional boxer who competed from 2001 to 2013. As an amateur he represented Great Britain at the 2000 Olympics, winning a gold medal in the super-heavyweight division and becoming the first ever British boxer to win Olympic gold in that division. Harrison turned professional the following year after signing a contract with BBC Sport, and went on to have seventeen fights on the network before their cancellation of all boxing broadcasts. The Commonwealth Boxing Council (CBC) is a governing body that sanctions professional boxing bouts for territories within the Commonwealth, and is an affiliate of the WBC.
