The Seymour Football Netball Club, nicknamed the ''Lions'', is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the historic railway township of Seymour, Victoria. Seymour first competed in the North East Football Association (NEFA) in 1891, then played in four consecutive grand finals, winning two in 1899 & 1902, then again in 1904, 1910 and 1912. In 1913 with only Avenel, Euroa & Seymour teams left in the NEFA, a meeting was held & the Waranga North East Football Association was formed on - Tuesday, 13 May 1913 from the following teams - Avenel, Euroa, Murchieson, Nagambie, Rushworth & Seymour. Seymour FC teams have compete in the Goulburn Valley League continuously since 1976. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. Originally known as the Victorian Football League (VFL), it was founded in 1896 as a breakaway competition from the Victorian Football Association (VFA), with its inaugural season commencing the following year. The VFL, aiming to become a national competition, began expanding beyond Victoria to other Australian states in the 1980s, and changed its name to the AFL in 1990.
