Tony Aquilina
Anthony Saviour Aquilina (1 June 1950 – 18 September 2003) was an Australian politician. Tony Aquilina was born in Malta and was married to Joanne (later divorced); they had two sons. He worked as a primary school teacher. His then wife Joanne was also a teacher at Jamison High School. A long-time resident of Jamisontown Aquilina became a mayor of Penrith where he also worked with and campaigned for Ross Free (also a former teacher). He was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly as the Labor Party member for the seat of Mulgoa. He switched to the seat of St Marys in 1991 after Mulgoa was abolished, but his second term was beleaguered by scandal, and then-Opposition Leader Bob Carr forced him to resign at the 1995 election in order to end the associated bad publicity. In 1996, he was found guilty on fraud charges and was sentenced to one year in prison, which on appeal was commuted to community service. He died in Sydney after a long illness. He is not rela ... John Aquilina
John Joseph Aquilina (born 12 March 1950, in Malta), a former Australian politician, is a former member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly representing the electorate of Blacktown between 1981 and 1991 and the electorate of Riverstone between 1991 and 2011 for the Labor Party. Between 1986 and 1988 and again between 1995 and 2003, he served in a range of ministerial portfolios including Minister for Natural Resources and Minister for Youth and Community Services in the Wran and Unsworth Labor governments and Minister for Education and Training, Minister for Fair Trading, and Minister for Land and Water Conservation in the Carr Labor government. From 2003 to 2007, he was Speaker of the NSW Legislative Assembly, and was Leader of the House from 2007 until his retirement in 2011. The City of Penrith is a local government area in the state of New South Wales, Australia. The seat of the city is located in Penrith, located about west of Sydney's central business district. It occupies part of the traditional lands of the Darug people. First incorporated as a municipality on 12 May 1871, on 1 January 1949, the municipalities of Penrith, St Marys and Castlereagh and part of the Nepean Shire amalgamated to form a new Municipality of Penrith. Mulgoa is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales. It is currently represented by Tanya Davies of the Liberal Party. Mulgoa includes the suburbs of Abbotsbury, Austral, Badgerys Creek, Cecil Hills, Cecil Park, Eastern Creek, Elizabeth Hills, Erskine Park, Glenmore Park, Horsley Park, Kemps Creek, Luddenham, Middleton Grange, Mount Vernon, Mulgoa, Orchard Hills, Regentville, St Clair, Wallacia and West Hoxton. 1995 New South Wales State Election
Elections to the 51st Parliament of New South Wales were held on Saturday 25 March 1995. All seats in the Legislative Assembly and half the seats in the Legislative Council were up for election. The minority Liberal Party-led Coalition government of Premier John Fahey was defeated by the Labor Party, led by Opposition Leader Bob Carr.
