Tonlé Bassac ( km, ទន្លេបាសាក់) is a commune (''sangkat'') of Chamkar Mon District in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Lying beside the Bassac River, the area has become a hub of development projects in the last two years, drawing comparisons with Marina Bay, Singapore. Geography The area extends from the banks of the Bassac River in the east, to National Highway One in the south, across to Monivong Boulevard in the west, and Samdach Preah Sihanouk Boulevard in the north. The area is home to the Phsar Kapko market and various cultural boutiques and modern restaurants. Provinces Of Cambodia
Cambodia is divided into 25 provinces ( km, ខេត្ត, ). The capital Phnom Penh is not a province but an "autonomous municipality" ( km, រាជធានី, link=no, ; lit. 'Capital'), equivalent to a province governmentally and administered at the same level as the other 24 provinces. Phnom Penh has both the highest population and the highest population density of all provinces, but is the second smallest in land area. The largest province by area is Mondulkiri and the smallest is Kep which is also the least populated province. Mondulkiri has the lowest population density. Phnom Penh
Phnom Penh (; km, ភ្នំពេញ, ) is the capital and most populous city of Cambodia. It has been the national capital since the French protectorate of Cambodia and has grown to become the nation's primate city and its economic, industrial, and cultural centre. Phnom Penh succeeded Angkor Thom as the capital of the Khmer nation but was abandoned several times before being reestablished in 1865 by King Norodom. Chamkar Mon District
Chamkar Mon ( km, ចំការមន, meaning 'Mulberry Farm') is the southernmost district in central Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The district has an area of 10.56 km2. As of the 2019 census, its population is 70,772. Administration Chamkar Mon was subdivided into 12 Sangkats and 95 Phums (villages). Administrative divisions of Cambodia have several levels. Cambodia is divided into 24 provinces (''Khaet''; km, ខេត្ត, ) and the special administrative unit Phnom Penh. Bassac River
The Bassac River ( km, ទន្លេបាសាក់; Tonlé Bassac) is a distributary of the Tonlé Sap and Mekong River. The river starts in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and flows southerly, crossing the border into Vietnam near Châu Đốc. The name Bassac comes from the Khmer prefix “pa” (father or male) added to sak (សក្តិ) (power or honor), a Khmer word borrowed from the Sanskrit “sakti” (शक्ति). In Vietnam it is known as the Hậu River (''Sông Hậu'' or ''Hậu Giang'' in Vietnamese). The Bassac River is an important transportation corridor between Cambodia and Vietnam, with barges and other craft plying the waters.
