Tonis was a Canadian Ukrainian-language pay television channel owned by Ethnic Channels Group (ECG) with its name licensed from the owners of the Ukrainian television channel, Tonis. The channel broadcast a variety of programming primarily from Tonis including news, sports, cultural programs, and talk shows. Priamyi ( uk, Прямий, translit=Priamyj, ) is a private Ukrainian TV channel which under the name Tonis ( uk, Тоніс) was established in 1989. In 2017 the channel changed ownership and was revamped under its current name. History Tonis The TV channel Tonis was established in 1989 with its headquarters in Mykolaiv. In the same year it was licensed to satellite channel WORLDNET. In 1992, the head office moved to Kyiv, and the channel began broadcasting in the capital. Parallel experimental satellite began broadcasting as part of the "slave channel". Tonis received the right to broadcast in 12 regions of Ukraine. Mike Tonis
Michael Timothy Tonis (born February 9, 1979) is a Greek-American former professional baseball catcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Kansas City Royals. Career Tonis attended Elk Grove High School and was drafted in the 52nd round of the Major League Baseball draft by the New York Mets, but did not sign, instead choosing to attend the University of California. In 1998, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Brewster Whitecaps of the Cape Cod Baseball League and was named a league all-star. The Royals drafted him again in the 2nd round of the draft and he did sign. Tonis's best season was , when he batted .264 with 12 home runs and 61 RBI with the Single-A Wilmington Blue Rocks and Double-A Wichita Wranglers. Prior to the 2002 season, Tonis suffered multiple injuries, which sidelined him for most of the season.
