Tonina "Nina" Dimech (born 22 December 1960) is a Maltese footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for First Division club Birkirkara FC. She has played for the Malta women's national team. Birkirkara (abbreviated as B'Kara) is a city in the central region of Malta. It is the second most populous on the island, with 24,356 inhabitants as of 2020. The town consists of five autonomous parishes: Saint Helen, Saint Joseph the Worker, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Saint Mary and San Gorg Preca. Melita Football Club is a Maltese football club that represents the town of St. Julian's. Melita was recently promoted to the Maltese top flight for the first time ever, only to be relegated again the following season. Having finished first in Group C of the newly revamped National Amateur League in the 2020-21 season and gaining automatic promotion, the team has been playing in the Maltese Challenge League from the 2021-22 season. Maltese First Division (women)
The Maltese Women's League or for sponsorship reasons BOV Women's League is the top-level league of women's football in Malta. It is run by the Malta Football Association. After several failed attempts in the 1970s and 1980s to create a lasting women's football competition, successful tournaments of San Gwann and Luxol St. Andrews gained so much interest, that the Malta Football Association decided to organize the first ever league in 1995–96. The most titles were won by Hibernians. Although the winning team of the league qualifies for a spot in the UEFA Women's Champions League, the spot is not always taken. Malta currently sits at the last spot in the UEFA coefficients women's ranking and the last club to take part was Birkirkara in 2007–08; Birkirkana lost all three games with 1–37 goals.
