Tomorrow Is Yesterday
"Tomorrow Is Yesterday" is the nineteenth episode of the first season of the American science fiction television series ''Star Trek''. Written by D. C. Fontana and directed by Michael O'Herlihy, it first aired on January 26, 1967. It was the first Star Trek episode to be written solely by a woman (Dorothy Fontana had previously written the teleplay for the episode “Charlie X” but the story was credited to Gene Roddenberry). In the episode, the ''Enterprise'' is thrown back to Earth in the 1960s where the US Air Force detects it so the crew must find a way to correct the damage to the timeline. ''Tomorrow's Yesterday'' is a short film written and directed by Elan Gale. It was produced by Page One Pictures in association with Sascha Rasmussen, Paul McCarthy-Boyington, Patrick O'Sullivan, and Angelo Perez, who were also the actors in the film. Herbert Franklin Solow (December 14, 1930 – November 19, 2020) was an American motion picture and television executive, screenwriter, motion picture and television producer, director and talent agent. Biography Solow was born to a Jewish family in New York City. After his graduation from Dartmouth College in 1953, Solow was hired by the William Morris Agency in New York City to work in the mailroom. In 1954, he was promoted to talent agent. "The Naked Time" is the fourth episode of the first season of the American science fiction television series ''Star Trek''. Written by John D. F. Black and directed by Marc Daniels, it first aired on September 29, 1966. In the episode, a strange, intoxicating infection, which lowers the crew's inhibitions, spreads throughout the ''Enterprise''. As the madness spreads, the entire ship is endangered. In orbital mechanics and aerospace engineering, a gravitational slingshot, gravity assist maneuver, or swing-by is the use of the relative movement (e.g. orbit around the Sun) and gravity of a planet or other astronomical object to alter the path and speed of a spacecraft, typically to save propellant and reduce expense. Gravity assistance can be used to accelerate a spacecraft, that is, to increase or decrease its speed or redirect its path. In the fictional ''Star Trek'' universe, the Vulcan nerve pinch is a technique used mainly by Vulcans to render unconsciousness by pinching a pressure point at the base of the victim's neck. Origin The script for " The Enemy Within" stated that Spock " kayoes" (Knocks Out) Captain Kirk (William Shatner)'s duplicate, but Leonard Nimoy, who opposed the Vietnam War and supported Eugene McCarthy, felt that such a brutal action would be unnecessarily violent for a Vulcan. He therefore invented an alternative by suggesting that Vulcans may know enough about human anatomy, or they may have the ability to project telepathic energy from their fingertips, that they could render a human unconscious.
