Tomnashia Luteominia
''Tomnashia luteominia'', the red firedot lichen, is a species of saxicolous (rock-dwelling), crustose lichen in the family Teloschistaceae. It is widely distributed along the North American west coast. The lichen has two varieties: var. ''bolanderi'' has distinctive red apothecia (fruiting bodies), while var. ''luteominia'' has orange-brown apothecia. Taxonomy The lichen was first formally described as a new species in 1866 by the American lichenologist Edward Tuckerman, as ''Placodium luteominimum''. Sergey Kondratyuk and Jae-Seoun Hur transferred it to the genus ''Tomnashia ''Tomnashia'' is a genus of lichen-forming fungi in the family Teloschistaceae. Edward Tuckerman
Edward Tuckerman (December 7, 1817 in Boston, Massachusetts – March 15, 1886) was an American botanist and professor who made significant contributions to the study of lichens and other alpine plants. He was a founding member of the Natural History Society of Boston and most of his career was spent at Amherst College. ''Tomnashia'' is a genus of lichen-forming fungi in the family Teloschistaceae. It has four species of saxicolous (rock-dwelling), crustose lichens that occur in southwestern North America. Sergey Yakovlevich Kondratyuk ( uk, Сергій Якович Кондратюк) (born 17 May 1959) is a Ukrainian botanist specialising in lichenology. His research deals with the taxonomy, floristics, ecology and geography of lichens and lichenicolous fungi. He has worked at the for more than 40 years. In 2014 Kondratyuk was awarded the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology. Early life and education Kondratyuk was born in the Kirovohrad region, in Ulyanovsk.
