Sergey Kondratyuk
Sergey Yakovlevich Kondratyuk ( uk, Сергій Якович Кондратюк) (born 17 May 1959) is a Ukrainian botanist specialising in lichenology. His research deals with the taxonomy, floristics, ecology and geography of lichens and lichenicolous fungi. He has worked at the for more than 40 years. In 2014 Kondratyuk was awarded the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology. Early life and education Kondratyuk was born in the Kirovohrad region, in Ulyanovsk. After graduating from school in 1976 he became a student of the Faculty of Biology at Kyiv State University. He specialized in the Department of Lower Plants. While still a student, Kondratyuk started to study lichens under the guidance of O.B. Bloom. Then began his career at the Institute of Botany (1979), as a senior technician and later an engineer in the Department of Algology and Lichenology. Kirovohrad
Kropyvnytskyi ( uk, Кропивницький, Kropyvnytskyi ) is a city in central Ukraine on the Inhul river with a population of . It is an administrative center of the Kirovohrad Oblast. Over its history, Kropyvnytskyi has changed its name several times. ''Josefpoeltia'' is a genus of lichen-forming fungi in the family Teloschistaceae. It has three species. The genus was circumscribed in 1997 by lichenologists Sergey Kondratyuk and Ingvar Kärnefelt, with '' J. boliviensis'' assigned as the type species. Lichenology is the branch of mycology that studies the lichens, symbiotic organisms made up of an intimate symbiotic association of a microscopic alga (or a cyanobacterium) with a filamentous fungus. The International Plant Names Index (IPNI) describes itself as "a database of the names and associated basic bibliographical details of seed plants, ferns and lycophytes." Coverage of plant names is best at the rank of species and genus. It includes basic bibliographical details associated with the names. Its goals include eliminating the need for repeated reference to primary sources for basic bibliographic information about plant names. The IPNI also maintains a list of standardized author abbreviations. These were initially based on Brummitt & Powell (1992), but new names and abbreviations are continually added.
