Tommy Reynolds (musician)
Tommy Reynolds, born Thomas Anthony Rinaldo (January 17, 1917 – September 30, 1986) was an American jazz clarinetist and bandleader. Early life Reynolds was born in Akron, Ohio. At the age of eight years old, Reynolds played violin and later learn to play the clarinet and saxophone in high school. He studied at the University of Akron, worked briefly with Ben Pollack, and then became a member of the orchestra of Isham Jones in 1937, where he remained for two years. Career At the end of 1939, Reynolds founded his own band, Tommy Reynolds and his Band of Tomorrow, which became popular in the Midwest through radio transmissions of their performances in Cleveland. Reynolds also appeared at the Roseland Ballroom and the Paramount Hotel in New York, The Apollo in Harlem, Frank Dailey's Meadowbrook in New Jersey, the Bandbox in Chicago, and the Palladium in Hollywood."Tommy Reynolds". Akron () is the fifth-largest city in the U.S. state of Ohio and is the county seat of Summit County, Ohio, Summit County. Atlantic Recording Corporation (simply known as Atlantic Records) is an American record label founded in October 1947 by Ahmet Ertegun and Herb Abramson. Theodore "Fats" Navarro (September 24, 1923 – July 6, 1950) was an American jazz trumpet player. He was a pioneer of the bebop style of jazz improvisation in the 1940s. He had a strong stylistic influence on many other players, including Clifford Brown. Life Navarro was born in Key West, Florida, United States, of Cuban, African, and Chinese descent. He began playing piano at age six, but did not become serious about music until he began playing trumpet at the age of thirteen. He was a childhood friend of drummer Al Dreares. By the time he graduated from Douglass High School, he wanted to be away from Key West and joined a dance band headed for the Midwest. Navarro gained valuable experience touring in bands, including Snookum Russell's territory band, where he met and influenced a young J.J. Johnson. Dewey Jackson
Dewey Jackson (June 21, 1900 – January 1, 1994) was an American jazz trumpeter and cornetist. Early life Jackson was a native of St. Louis, Missouri. Career Jackson began playing professionally at an early age, with the Odd Fellows Boys' Band (1912), Tommy Evans (1916–17), and George Reynolds's Keystone Band. He played with Charlie Creath on riverboats, then led his Golden Melody Band from 1920 to 1923. In 1926, he performed with his St. Louis Charleston Peacock Band on the Streckfus Steamboat Lines' steamer ''Capitol''. He continued to be a regular performer on riverboats into the early 1940s, heading his groups and working as a sideman for Creath and Fate Marable. He was briefly away from boats in 1926 when he played for four months with Andrew Preer at the Cotton Club in New York City.
