Tommy Lewis (American Football)
Thomas Edison Lewis (October 7, 1931 – October 12, 2014) was an American gridiron football player. He played fullback for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Playing career Lewis scored two touchdowns in the team's 1953 Orange Bowl victory over Syracuse. In the first quarter of the 1954 Cotton Bowl Classic against Rice, he scored his team's only touchdown to give the Crimson Tide a 6–0 lead. Lewis is best remembered for his second quarter off-the-bench tackle of Rice’s halfback Dicky Moegle on a running play that started at the Rice 5-yard line. Moegle took the handoff and raced along the sideline near the Alabama bench. As Moegle passed midfield, Lewis (wearing jersey number 42) sprang from the bench to tackle Moegle. Greenville, Alabama
Greenville is a city and the county seat of Butler County, Alabama, United States. At the 2020 census, the population was 7,374. Greenville is known as the Camellia City, wherein originated the movement to change the official Alabama state flower from the goldenrod to the camellia with legislative sponsors LaMont Glass and H.B. Taylor. History Greenville was first settled in 1819. Its original name was Buttsville, but after becoming the county seat in 1822, its name was changed to Greenville, in remembrance of the former locale in South Carolina of many of the original settlers. The first county seat was at Fort Dale, a fortification that was named for Sam Dale, who fought to defend the area during the Creek War. The site of Fort Dale lies on the north of the city near the Fort Dale Cemetery, along what is now Alabama Highway 185. Huntsville Rockets
The Huntsville Rockets were a professional American football team based in Huntsville, Alabama, from 1962 to 1966. They played their home games at Goldsmith–Schiffman Field. History The Rockets were founded as members of the Dixie Professional Football League in 1962. The team played under the direction of head coach Tommy Lewis and line coach Dave Sington. They earned a 17–1 record in their debut season. In 1963, the team moved to the new Southern Professional Football League, and Al "Monk" Romine took over as head coach. The SPFL faltered in 1965, and the Rockets moved to the North American Football League (NAFL). The Rockets played in the NAFL Southern Division from 1965 to 1966.
