Tommy Durrance
Thomas L. Durrance was a college football player. He was a prominent halfback for the Florida Gators of the University of Florida from 1969 to 1971; one of the "Super Sophs". During his sophomore season, he scored 110 points—then the school record, and still tied for second on the Gators' single-season records list. He was only the second person in SEC history to score 100. His 18 touchdowns gave him the nickname of "Touchdown Tommy." Durrance finished his three-year college career with 2,582 yards of combined rushing and receiving yardage. He was from Daytona Beach. Ormond Beach, Florida
Ormond Beach is a city in central Florida in Volusia County. The population was 43,080 at the 2020 census. Ormond Beach lies directly north of Daytona Beach and is a principal city of the Deltona–Daytona Beach–Ormond Beach, FL Metropolitan Statistical Area. Mainland High School
Mainland High School is a public high school located in Daytona Beach, Florida, United States. It is attended by 1,979 students of grades nine through twelve. The mascot is a Buccaneer and strongly resembles the old logo of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. History Daytona Public School The original school was known as Daytona Public School, and was not a permanent structure. Originally started in 1872 as a school for all grades, the school started off in a log cabin, moved several times, and then finally settled in the wood-frame building pictured on the right in 1874. The Florida Gators football program represents the University of Florida (UF) in American college football. Florida competes in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Eastern Division of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). Halfback (American Football)
A halfback (HB) is an offensive position in American football, whose duties involve lining up in the offensive backfield and carrying the ball on most rushing plays, i.e. a running back. When the principal ball carrier lines up deep in the backfield, and especially when that player is placed behind another player (usually a blocking back), as in the I formation, that player is instead referred to as a tailback. 1969 Florida Gators Football Team
The 1969 Florida Gators football team represented the University of Florida during the 1969 NCAA University Division football season. The season was the tenth, last, and arguably most successful season for Ray Graves as the head coach of the Florida Gators football team. Graves' 1969 Florida Gators finished their regular season with an overall record of 8–1–1 and an SEC record of 3–1–1, placing fourth among the ten SEC teams. Florida concluded the year with a Gator Bowl victory over SEC-champion Tennessee.
