Tommy Breheny was a Gaelic football manager and player. He managed his native Sligo between 2006 and 2007. In that time he led the county to a Connacht Senior Football Championship. St Mary's GAA (Sligo)
St Mary's is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the western ward of Sligo, County Sligo, Republic of Ireland. History The club was formed in 1976 from the amalgamation of the Craobh Rua and Muire Naofa clubs. It is the only Sligo club to have won the Connacht Senior Club Football Championship, winning three titles. As well as that, they are the only team to have won the county minor, U-21 and senior championship in Sligo in the same season, having done so in 1985 and 2015. The Sligo county football team ( ) represents Sligo in men's Gaelic football and is governed by Sligo GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. The team competes in the three major annual inter-county competitions; the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, the Connacht Senior Football Championship and the National Football League. Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). Connacht Senior Football Championship
The Connacht Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition for the senior county teams of Connacht GAA. All of the counties of Connacht participate in the championship, as well as counties London and New York. The winning team receives the Nestor Cup. The Connacht Senior Football Championship is run on a knock-out basis in which once a team loses they are eliminated from the competition. A series of games are played during the summer months and the final is played in June or July. The winner progresses directly to the All-Ireland Super 8s, while losing teams progress to the All-Ireland Qualifiers (before 2001 the All-Ireland was a straight knock-out format meaning all losing teams were eliminated after a single defeat). Dominic Corrigan (Gaelic Footballer)
Dominic "Dom" Corrigan (born 1962) is a Gaelic footballer and manager. He played for Kinawley and the Fermanagh county team. He later managed the Fermanagh and Sligo teams. Family life Corrigan received his education at St Aidan's in Derrylin and at St Michael's College, Enniskillen (where he would later go on to teach at). He then went to Jordanstown, winning an All-Ireland Colleges Trench Cup medal in 1984. He moved home to Enniskillen in 1987. A member of a family of eight, Corrigan married Mary (''née'' McCabe) from Aghadrumsee. Their first child, Tomás Corrigan, would go on to play for Fermanagh. He has another son, Ruáirí, also a Gaelic footballer. Playing career Corrigan is a Kinawley clubman. He made his debut for Kinawley as an eleven-year-old goalkeeper in 1973. Tommy Jordan
Tommy Jordan is a Gaelic football manager. He managed Crossmolina Deel Rovers to the 2000–01 All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship and, after unsuccessfully applying for the role of senior manager of the Mayo county team, later managed the Sligo county team from 2007, shortly after the county had won the Connacht Senior Football Championship. The Sligo appointment meant that, with John Maughan already managing Roscommon, two men from the same club were managing two of Connacht's five counties. Because Sligo were relegated to Division 4 of the National Football League, the GAA forced the reigning Connacht champions to participate in the Tommy Murphy Cup instead of the All-Ireland qualifiers when they exited the provincial championship; the county's exit to London in that competition after many players (including Eamonn O'Hara) declined to participate, led Jordan to resign.
