Tommaso De Pra
Tommaso de Pra (born 16 December 1938) is a former Italian professional road bicycle racer. De Pra was professional from 1963 to 1971. He rode the Tour de France twice, won one stage and wore the yellow jersey for one day in 1966. He rode the Tour again in 1971 and during that edition there were Combativity, Elegance and Kindness Awards given after each stage. Following stage 4 he was given the Kindness Award. His other career highlights include stage win in Tirreno–Adriatico, the Vuelta a España and the Tour de Suisse, as well as wins in the Italian semi-classics the Coppa Ugo Agostoni in 1965, the Trofeo Calzani Cabiate and the Circuito degli Assi. Mortara, Lombardy
Mortara ( Lombard: ''Murtära'') is a town and ''comune'' in the region of Lombardy, Italy. It lies between the Agogna and Terdoppio rivers, in the historical district known as Lomellina, a rice-growing agricultural center. It received the honorary title of city with a royal decree in 1706. Classic Cycle Races
The classic cycle races are the most prestigious one-day professional road cycling races in the international calendar. Some of these events date back to the 19th century. They are normally held at roughly the same time each year. The five most revered races are often described as the cycling monuments. For the 2005 to 2007 seasons, some classics formed part of the UCI ProTour run by the Union Cycliste Internationale. This event series also included various stage races including the Tour de France, Giro d'Italia, Vuelta a España, Paris–Nice, and the Critérium du Dauphiné Libéré. The UCI ProTour replaced the UCI Road World Cup series (1989–2004) which contained only one-day races. 1968 Vuelta A España
The 23rd edition of ''Vuelta a España'' (Tour of Spain), a long-distance bicycle stage race and one of the three grand tours, was held from 25 April to 12 May 1968. It consisted of 18 stages covering a total of . Basque nationalist ETA terrorists detonated a bomb along the course on stage 15, causing that day's racing to be annulled. The race was won by Felice Gimondi of the Salvarani cycling team. With this win in the 1968 Vuelta a España, the 1967 Giro d'Italia and the 1965 Tour de France, Gimondi became the second cyclist after Jacques Anquetil to win all three grand tours in his career. Defending champion Jan Janssen won the points competition and 1966 champion Francisco Gabica won the mountains classification. Tour De Suisse
The Tour de Suisse ( en, Tour of Switzerland) is an annual road cycling stage race. Raced over eight days, the event covers two weekends in June, and along with the Critérium du Dauphiné, it is considered a proving ground for the Tour de France, which is on the calendar approximately two weeks after the end of the Tour de Suisse. Since 2011 the event is part of the UCI World Tour, cycling's highest level of professional races. History The race was first held in 1933 and has evolved in timing, duration and sponsorship.
