Tomiyama, Aichi
was a village located in Kitashitara District, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. As of May 1, 2004, the village had an estimated population of 218 and a density of 6.3 persons per km². Its total area was 34.78 km². Geography Tomiyama was located at the extreme northeast corner of Aichi Prefecture, in an area of 1000-meter mountains. Some 90 percent of the village area was covered in mountains and forest. History Tomiyama Village was created in the early Meiji period cadastral reform of 1876. The completion of the Sakuma Dam in 1955 flooded much of the arable land in the village, forcing the resettlement of most of the inhabitants, and leaving Tomiyama with the distinction of being the least populous village in Japan (aside from some isolated islets). Tomiyama, Chiba
was a town located in Awa District, Chiba Prefecture, Japan. As of March 20, 2006, the town had an estimated population of 5,841 and a density of 145 persons per km2. The total area was 40.34 km2. Geography Tomiyama was located at the southwest end of Chiba Prefecture, in an inland area of the southern Bōsō Peninsula, with a small shoreline facing the entrance to Tokyo Bay on the Pacific Ocean. The town had a temperate maritime climate with hot, humid summers and mild, cool winters. History The area around Tomiyama was the setting of the Nansō Satomi Hakkenden, an epic novel by Edo period author Kyokutei Bakin. Tomiyama Town was created on February 11, 1955, from the merger of former Iwai Town and Heguri Village. Kantaro Tomiyama
is the chairman of the giant Japanese toy, children's merchandise and entertainment company, Tomy Company, Ltd. (known as Takara Tomy in Japanese).
