Tomi Jenkins
Thomas Michael “Tomi” Jenkins is an American vocalist, musician, composer, record producer and author, known commonly as one of the founding members and lead singers of the funk and R&B band, Cameo, who has over 17 million records sold. Jenkins is the co-writer of many of the group's biggest hits, including, “Secrets of Time”, “Flirt”, “Single Life”, “ Back and Forth", “Talkin’ Out the Side of Your Neck”, “ She’s Strange”, “Candy”, and the Grammy-nominated, “ Word Up”. Cameo (band)
Cameo is an American funk band that formed in 1974. Cameo was initially a 14-member group known as the New York City Players; this name was later changed to Cameo. As of the first half of 2009, some of the original members continued to perform together. Two other original members were hired by the hip hop group Outkast. In 2015, Cameo announced a new residency show at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino, opening in March 2016. On February 20, 2019, Larry Blackmon of Cameo announced "El Passo", the first new single from the band in 19 years. ''Cameosis'' is the fifth album by the funk band Cameo, released in 1980. Reception ''Cameosis'' reached number one on the R&B album charts and number twenty five on the Billboard 200 album charts. It was certified gold for sales of more than 500,000 copies in the US. The two singles, "We're Goin' Out Tonight" and "Shake Your Pants", charted on the R&B singles charts at number 11 and 8 respectively. However, "Shake Your Pants" received considerable radio play as an album track, and was already a bonafide hit prior to being released as a single. The album's closing track, "Why Have I Lost You", was a new version of the same song that had been released on the band's second album. ''Style'' is the ninth album by the funk band Cameo, released in 1983. It was their first album to introduce their Atlanta Artists label, with which they maintained their distribution through Polygram Records. Atlanta Artists was a sub-label of Mercury Records founded by Larry Blackmon of the group Cameo. Origins After Cameo's seventh album, '' Knights of the Sound Table'' (1981), Blackmon reduced the group from ten members to a five-member unit. This change was made due to the economics of the music industry at that time. Blackmon relocated the group from New York to Atlanta, Georgia. With their core of five members, they released the album '' Alligator Woman'', a fusion of funk, new wave and a synthesizer-driven sound (compared to their previous albums which had more horn arrangements).
